Pours a slightly hazy ruby brown with a half finger light beige head that fades to nothing but a few tiny bubbles in this viscous liquid. The aromas of banana and clove are in there, but there is also a huge amount of soy, molasses and raisins that is very rich and very good. There is also some chocolate cherry syrup, alcohol, and strawberries. Flavor was not as I expected with a fruity tang I can’t place, tobacco, earth, toffee, alcohol, marachino cherries without the sweetness, a bit of dusty banana, and some salty soy towards the finish. Dry mildly bitter finish. The alcohol is noticeable in my sinuses the most, followed by the mouth and lastly the back of the throat, but something is expected from a 12% ABV beer. Full syrupy body with low carbonation, but more than what I’d expect from a liquid that has maybe four bubbles on the surface. This was delicious. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The head is thin, medium, frothy, and light brown. The aroma shows some definite wheat, sweet, alcohol, has a faint sourness, a slight saison quality, and mellowed dark fruit. The flavor shows alcohol, but well masked for 12%, mellowed dark fruit, earthynes, also a slight saison quality. The palate is dry and very mellow. The finish warmed my stomach. I liked this one a lot more than Kulmbacher’s. Beerdedone (1888), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of wheat, alcohol, citrus, and fruit. Flavor is alcohol, citrus, fruit. I would never guess 12%. Damn good Eisbock. nearbeer (1887), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Dark brown with a huge head that immediately fizzes away. Aromas of alcohol, chocolate toffee and dark fruit. Sweet flavors of raisin cake with icing, slight chocolate and caramel are balanced well by alcohol and some dryness on the finish. Tastes like a good Belgian strong. Palate is chewy, mostly smooth and has a nice alcohol and carbonation tingle. Very nice. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of wheat, alcohol, citrus, sweetness, fruit (fermented cherries i believe). Flavor is sweet, fruit, alcohol very present, but smooth for 12%, citrus, pepper, mild carbonation, and a good mouth feel. Good body, great brew. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA

Alcohol, raisons, and other sweet and wheaty notes in the nose. Alcohol in the breath, a bit fizzy. Sweet malty taste upfront with the alcohol burning up the middle. Vanilla and spice (with yet more tingy alcohol notes) finish it off. As it warmed, the taste grew more complex. The last few tastes were the best. DrnkMcDermott (1873), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Time to pop the cap on one of the last few styles I haven’t sampled. Smell is quite heady and alcoholic! Pours deep drown with a thin, found some yeast dregs in the bottle. Heady alcohol carries into taste, supported by lots of sweet caramelly roast bock malts. Hop and weizen spiciness is subtle at first, but comes through once you’re used to the malts; and gives impression of maple syrup with banana slices. Just sit back and let it work its magic on you.
