Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

12 oz bottle. Aroma: Tons of spicey phenols. Prunes and raisins. Yeasty. Appearance: Kind of a brownish/redish/purple? An odd color. Lots of bubbles and no head. Flavor: Spicey as all get out. Roast and caramel. Prunes. Quite alcoholic. Palate: At first its pretty silky and soft. Then settles into an alcohol burn and is prickly on the tounge. Overall: Well worth the time, but I won’t have another.

Pours dark brown with a little tan head. Big, chunky, floaty globs of yeast. Head fades quickly. The aroma is bananas drenched in sweet sticky toffee, light citrus. The flavor is very sugary sweet, toffee, some apple and banana, raisins and prunes. The mouthfeel is sticky and thick with a slightly bitter, warming finish.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown color, lots of floaties. No head to mention although carbonated well. Rich aroma of malt hints of fruit. Alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering. Thick, almost syrupy, lots of residual sweetness. Mainly malt in taste.

Bottle, about a year old. Pours deep brown with chunky sediment that sinks right to the bottom of my glass and a thin, fizzy off white head. Rich aroma with a lot a fruit, including plum, raisin and banana. I also catch a bit of chocolate and spice. Medium full body, with alcohol that tingles and cools. Flavor is again sweet fruit, mostly banana and raisin, as well as clove, bread and caramel. Extreme, very nice and quite drinkable.

11.2z bottle #059329. Dark brown and murky. Beer appears to lighten around the edges. Minimal tan head. Nose is nothing but barnyard. Starting to get some banana, and cinnamon notes. Figs and sweet bread. Syrupy coating sensation. Thick and heavy and viscous and alcoholic. Sherry and port notes, but with a sprite or 7up effervescence. Musty and bready, grainy, raisins, resinous and with a piney hoppy burn in the aftertaste. Terrific brew. But I have to admit that the Kulmbacher last night was better!

Pours a murky brown with no head, but suprisingly well carbonated. Aroma is caramel, cider, sugar, light alcohol. Initial taste is molassis and caramel. Taste remains sweet and a strong presence of alcohol enters, almost too strong. Fruitiness, citrus abound. Finish is almost oaken, slightly bitter, slightly sour. Not very well versed in this style, but I found this beer approachable and enjoyable.
