Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Wow. Thick rich with aroma of cloves and hints of smoke. If ianything initial impression is of a clovey scottish ale. The wheat characteristics take over soon, much more clove than banana, and in this case thats good. Hints of smoke and a strong earthiness are present as well. This hides its alcohol quite well and is very drinkable despite the strength. This is an excellent beer.

Murky red brown with large but quickly dissipating cola-like-bubbled beige head. Strong but pleasant esters, bready yeast n malt aroma, Luscious smooth quite low carb body. Big fruity wheaty malt flavours. High alcohol is very well masked. As others have said, this one is not as fully entertaining as the straight Aventinus but nevertheless a very nice winter warmer.

12oz - 2004 - Intense toasted malt and caramel aroma. Raisin, toffee, chocolate and alcohol. Pours deep copper with a small head, decent lacing and tons of floaties even though I poured it carefully. Flavor is fruity raisin, black cherry, plum with a malty chocolate and caramel finish. Palate is sticky and sweet. Alcohol is hidden well but the warmth lets you know it’s there. A very tasty and complex brew.

Let me start off with I can't stand wheat beers, if you do, skip over my rating as Sargent Schultz would say "I know nothing, nothing at all". This beer seems classic to me. Very yeasty and fruity and I didn't like it. My ratings reflect the fact that I think it is the best of a style that is very disagreeable to me.

330ml bottle. Dark brown-black color, with just a tinge of deep burgundy. Deep pungent aroma. Rich and malty, with very subtle chocolate malt tastes along with the banana-like favors of the weizen yeast. The alcohol is completely complimented by sweetness of the malt, reminiscent of a dark Belgian strong ale.

OK, this was great, sort of like an Aventinus with the water taken out. Wonderful taste, nose, and mouth feel, virtually no head. Can’t deal with more than a couple of ounces at a time, though. Same intensity of flavors as a barley wine, sure, but none of the cloying bubble gummy sweetness. Yeah, raisins and sweet spice like a winter stout, huge mouthfeel, you know the alcohol is there but there is none of the heat or burn of alcohol ... wonderfully masked by the intensity of the malt. So is it better than an Aventinus? It sure is not as useful as an Aventinus ... this is sort of "take half a beer and call me in the morning" beer, not beer and wurst or beer and pizza beer. // As good as the first sip tastes, this one saturates all too quickly and you can’t imagine having another one for months to come. A wonderful wonderful beer and I gave my last couple away.
