COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

pours an average , frothy, light brown head that fully diminished. Body is flat black, sparkles are visible. Aroma contains hay, roasted and toasted malts, molasses, pine, lemon, banana, raisin, plum, cherry, a hint of smoke, charcoal licorice, alcohol and spices. Flavor starts off light acidic, to go to sweet and light bitter. Thisbear is heavy on the malts and medium hoppy. Body is full with syrupy texture and soft carbonation. My first ever Eisbock, I like the style . I hope they’re all like this.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2013 This is a heavy beer. It has a sweet, raisins/fig/date smell. Very thick, with a hunt of belgian spice. Excellent balance for the high sugar and alcohol.

Color caoba con espuma beige. Aromas dulces, pasas y frutos rojos. En boca comienza con un dulzor tostado que rápidamente pasa a un sabor agrio y afrutado intenso y equilibrado con un toque alcohólico.

Bottle from 2010: Dark brown pour with a light tan head. Aromas of malt, yeast, and candied fruit. Big malty flavor with dried fruit notes and wheat shining through. The abv is just barely noticable with a nice warming sensation. Delicious!

Appearance: Dark nutty brown color with a big frothy tan head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Slightly sweet dark malty, wheat and some dried fruit.
Palate: Medium + body. A bit sweet and a moderate bitterness. Rich carbonation. Soft texture.
Taste: Sweet caramel malty, wheat and dried fruit (plum/raisins). Some warming alcohol in the back.
Overall impression: Lovely and well balanced, although it was a bit sweet.
Personal stats: Bottle from a trade with Grima

2010 Vintage bottle # 009165 A - Pours a hazed russet brown with a fleeting cream colored head. S - Caramelized cherry caramel aroma, plums, molasses, leather, cinnamon, allspice, prunes, very complex aroma of malts. T - Sweet carmalized brown sugar, molasses just blankets the palate. Cherries, plums, red Bartlet pears, caramelized plantains, hints of cinnamon and all spice, some minor bitterness on the edges, M - Chewy but smooth feel, light side of full bodied, low but spritzy carbonation. I haven’t had one fresh but this 2 year old is tasting mighty fine. Awesome yeast works with multiple layers of malt. Very complex flavors. One to be sipped and pondered on for sure. Smaksprøve på Tap1 mai-13: hvis man liker søtt, sterkt hveteøl av typen bokkøl er dette et must. Et klasseøl fra Schneider, selv om alkoholen kan bli litt for fremtredende.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a very deep brown with enormous fizzy tan head. Aroma is sweet and mostly caramel malt with some fruity notes and grain. Sweet flavor with some wheat and perhaps plum as well. Full creamy mouthfeel with some warming from alcohol content in the finish. My first eisbock and a very good one.

Banana and herbs in aroma. Nice dark amber color. Taste is very well balanced so high alcohol content is only noticed by warm feeling in aftertaste.

Pours a nice brown amber beer with a good white head. Smells odd. Herbs. Wow. Ok. Taste is odd too. Palate is perfect.
