Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Admittedly, my first eisbock. Pours a dark ruby, very little head to speak of. Smells of fig, dates, dark fruit, nectarine. Mouth feel is light. Taste is dried fruit, vanilla, raisins, malt, toasty. Excellent beer.

Bottle. Ruby-brown color. Great aroma: sweet, intensely fruity, plums, grapes, cake, caramel and raisins, sweet sherry. Taste: strong, sparkling, warming, dessert wine, dried and candied fruits (raisins, prunes, apricots, figs). Great beer!

Perfect amber color with nice highlights and a huge fine head. Aroma of toffee, malts, caramel, banana syrup. Taste is thick, more bananas, malts, spices, and a warming boozy feeling, but not unbalanced. Sweet, but it fits. Very smooth carbonation and the nice Weizen texture is still there. The perfect Eisbock in my opinion.

bottle in osaka from craft beer belly. dark brown with minimal head. High carbonation. Sweet rich aroma. flavour is toffee, caramel, raisin, a hint of weizen banana. warming alcohol on the finish. mild bitterness follows. Very good. But too rich to have more than 200 ml or so.

BOD 8/26/14. Dark brown pour. Outstanding head volume, poor lacing and almost normal retention. Wonderful nose of dark fruit (raisin, prune, date), hints of banana and clove over a rich malt base. As it warms, medicinal alcohol notes become dominant. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture. Normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the finish. The flavor profile is world class and packs a wallop. It begins with a wave of dark fruit, that is mostly prune, over a clove background that is always present. As the prune fades, a balancing malt sweetness emerges. The middle becomes a bit medicinal from the alcohol and has a subtle bitterness underneath. As the finish approaches, malts make their strongest showing over notes of clove and dark fruit. The finish is a long slow medicinal alcohol fade leaving a pucker and burn at the back of the throat.

Bottle: A murky coppery red with a off white head. Its aroma is bananas, dark fruit. The flavor is caramel, bananas and some spiciness. The texture is creamy and a little thick. The finish is a dry and has a bit of a numbing mouth feel.

330ml Bottle at home. Dark sweet fruit aroma. Caramel, raisin, prune. Some spice such as star anise, cloves and cinnamon. Comfortably boozy. Rich and complex :)

Questa eisbock fa davvero il suo sporco lavoro. Colore marrone scuro con schiuma poco persistente, 12% si sentono tutti sin dal primo sorso, accompagnati dall’aroma e sapore di banana e frutta. Naturalmente molto dolce e caramellata.

Dark brown colour with almost no head. Aroma of dark fruits, bananas. Taste of dark fruits, bananas, roasted malts with little, but well balanced alcohol presence. Nice malty aftertaste which is very well balanced. Overall: Justifiable is this beer on the first place in this rang. Beer with strong caracter.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown with a huge aroma of flambeed bananas, rum & raisin and wood. More of the banana-y yeast on taste, along with dark German bread and dark fruits, with a warming alcohol to back it all up. Taste doesn’t quite live up to the stunning aroma, but I’m not just going to sit around sniffing beer all night.
