4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Appearance: Utter, complete, total perfection. Caramel syrup with cotton foam. Extremely thick. There is complete darkness; no light gets through when held up to light.
Smell: Bananas. Cloves. Chocolate. Bubblegum. Smells like a hef on steroids. Sweet maple syrup with a hint of pine. Smells like whiskey when it warms.
Taste/Mouthfeel: This stuff is strong. Extremely full-bodied. Pine, caramel, cloves, and a hint of maple hit you first. Then the bourbon, vanilla, and oak, followed by plum and banana. Some coffee in the finish. Tastes like an IPA, hef, and stout all in one.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dirt brown with an off white head. Aromas of banana and clove. Similar flavors with the addition of green apple. My first Eisbock, but very good.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Thanks McTapps for this one. Pours a dirty brown color, topped with an off-white head. Malty aroma, sweet, dark fruits and quite lots of grapes aroma. Taste is strong, sweet with a medium bitterness in the finish, with some soury notes. Not really my kind of beer.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours opaque auburn and settles to a dark chestnut brown body. Thin film of bubbles that leave a halo around the edge of the glass. Rich complex aroma of acidic dark fruits - raisins, cherries, and plums. Banana and clove jumped out at me, but molasses or sweet dark bread also came through. Chewy mouthfeel. Flavor profile changed with every few sips. Layers of concentrated malts, more banana, spices, anise, and cola. Finished with a faint sweetness. Potent potable, but not offensively so. Truly unique wheat beer that is most definitely worthwhile.

Bottle to stange glass
Blackberry, wheat, yeast, caramel, and grape. A dark reddish brown, with a frothy off white head with some dark brown sludgy spots. Taste is caramel, sourness, pepper, banana, alcohol and dark fruits. Wow, this has a kick, but not overly boozy.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours clear amber brown with a short tan head diminishing rapidly to nothing, no lacing. (3/5) Nose is banana, dark boozy fruit, toffee and raisins, mild yeasty wheat. (8/10) Taste is moderately strong sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Full bodied, low carbonation, lingering boozy finish. (4/5)
I want to call bull on the origin story (a shipment partially froze in unheated transport during the 1930’s). Yes, partial freezing will concentrate the flavour by removing water - kind of the opposite of the “Angel’s Share” alcohol loss - but that only works if you remove the ice. It doesn’t work with a sealed container that will rupture during freezing. Maybe, just maybe, a wooden barrel would expand enough to allow partial freezing - but you’d still have to remove the water ice before drinking... Though, now it occurs to me that if you just had a chunk of ice still present in the barrel when you tapped it... hmmm... OK, maybe it’s viable. Regardless of the validity of the origin story, this is one heckuva beer. Flavours are very similar to an Abt - deep, dark, and rich - and despite the huge ABV, are extremely palatable. And man, does the ABV sneak up on you! This is a great beer to get very, very drunk with - or better yet, to get someone else very, very drunk with. (16/20)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home bought at Biervana. 19th April 15. This is a beast of a beer, poured cloudy dark brown, aroma is pungent, banana and yeast evident with alcohol. Taste is banana, almonds, dark fruit, cloves and evident alcohol. This is a real sipper and a heavy going, but rewarding beer.

Fantastic beer! It’s a sweet, easy drinking and refreshing beer despite the 12% alcohol.
