Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

From Austria, Stiegl factory pub. BBE 2019 Pours mahogany hazy with nice white head. Aroma of plums, chocolate, cloves. Full bodied, thick creamy-sticky brew with medium carbonation. Very complex. Perfectly balanced. My first Eisbock. Second bottle will be put on hold.

On tap at Madriz Hop Republic. Soft weizen nose with some sweet fruity hints, elegant. Weizen flavor, tasty, soft and sweet, good acidity. Is like a silky version of the weizen bock but at 12%!!. Will have another...

Bottle from Drinks of the World. Pours hazy brown with a medium head. Boozy nose, but in a rather exciting way. Some wheat too. Sweet taste, still boozy, but I don’t mind, since it fits with the rest of the beer: Lots of fruits, heavy but not too much, fizzy carbonization.

Marrón tirando a borgoña, con abundante espuma que rápidamente desaparece dejando un cordón. Aroma a hierbas medicinales, y ligero plátano.

.33l pour from refrigerated bottle into a stemmed tulip. Deep brown and nearly totally opaque with a tiny bubby off-white head. Nose is forward-- a little sour smell, a little earthy. Gives a good indication of what to expect. Similar to a sour brown ale. A sour front gives way to a full dark malty body. A little nutty earthiness and then a sour finish. Dark fruit (some plum and lots of raisin) throughout. Not as puckering as most dedicated sours, but way more than your average dark beer. I like it. It feels like there are a lot of flavor levels to pull out. Definitely worth trying.

Bottle shared with friend. Probably one of the tastiest beers I’ve have tried. Punch of sweet dried fruit, fruit cake and marzipan. Thick and chewy. Just delicious.
