COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Brown color with tiny bubbles that release the aroma of clove and a nice malt character. The flavor has clove, raisin and plum with noticable alcohol. A very good beer.

Bottle 0,33l. Pours a hazy dark brown color and aroma of caramel, raisins and prunes. Taste of sweetness, prune, alcohol, brown sugar and a light sourness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Pilgrim in Moscow (those guys have all the good stuff!). Pours opaque brown with a dense beige head. Slightest bit of lacing. Aroma of caramel, banana, and alcohol. Flavour of dark fruit, banana. I am not really a fan of the stronger beer styles, but this is definitely worth trying.

Bottle. Pours a murky brown with a beige head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is molasses, bananas, cherries, brown bread. Taste is banana, caramel, a touch of molasses. A bit like drinking banana bread. Sweet and syrupy with some prickly carb to break it up.

Bottle (330 ml). Vintage 2010. Courtesy of Jürgen, thanks! Murky amber brown with a small beige head and very little lacing. Aroma is of breadied malt, caramel, banana, light spiciness, strawberries and red fruits/port notes... quite complex. Taste is moderately sweet and quite complex too with molasses, red fruits/port notes, breadied malt, banana, cloves and alcohol. Full body. Soft carbonation. Liquorous and syrupy mouthfeel. Warming finish. Quite complex and well balanced. Very nice sipper. It’s already 4+ years old and I think it could easily survive a few more years.

"fruity, spicy aroma with a new level of complexity compared to the others I’ve had in the style. not my favorite beer, but worth trying to familiarize yourself with a new style, perhaps."

Poured from a bottle, into a bell glass, at 40 degrees F. A: The pour is a cloudy dark brown, like old hickory wood. A thick head of very pale tan forms atop the beer, though lacing is more or less nonexistent (forms quickly, then slides right down the side of the glass). Nigh no light gets through the beer, just enough to let one know this is a seriously dark brown, cloudy brew. Bubbles rise slowly as it sits in the glass. S: While I am tempted to simply write "awesome in the true sense of the word", that’s not exactly helpful. The aroma is malt in all its best forms - toasty, bready toffee caramel goodness. T: Perfect.Toast, cracker, warm whole grain bread, caramel, and toffee, all singing in perfect harmony. The finish lasts a long while, toffee-slathered toast. The alcohol content is present, but as a background note, adding primarily the warmth. M: Rich silk, dancing lively and sparkling across the palate. O: This is one of my favorite beers brewed, ever, if not my absolute favorite. And yes, I’ve had BCBS, Ola Dubh Special Reserve 30, St Bernardus Abt 12, Espresso Aged Yeti, Celebrator...I would order this over any of those.
