Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Pours a murky brown with a diminshing beige head. The aroma is sweet, raisins being most prominent, with some notes of alcohol, and licorice. The flavour reflects the aroma, with very sweet notes of raisin, a warm alcohol feeling, and a tasty licorice finish. A damn tasty brew.

Pours very dark brown with just a slight head forming on the pour. Smell is very dark malts, and dark fruits. Flavor is huge! Incredible mouthfeel. More dark fruits and a very good Weizen taste. Very little if any sign of the high ABV in the taste. Maybe just a little heat, but that’s hard to notice. Goes down way too easy for a beer this big. Tastes great and doesn’t get old at all. Very complex, very big, very good beer!

Bottle: Poured a dark chocolate brown with off white to tan head. Aroma is nice malt and sweet wheat. Taste is sweet fruit with sweet malt. This beer hides the alcohol very well.

Bottle, 2005. Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma is quite sweet, of raisins, alcohol, and super sweet malt. Flavor is rather vegetably (squash, carrot) and sweet. I tasted these exact same flavors in another bottle and wasn’t sure if the bottle was in poor condition, but as this is my 2nd bottle, I feel pretty confidant in regards to its vegetably taste. Strong but still drinkable (wow, I couldn’t believe it was 12%!). Decent, but not particularly a favorite.
