Bobsy (196), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 4, 2007 Updated: Jan 10, 2008 500ml bottle from the LCBO for less than $4! On the nose the eisbock reminded me a little of trois pistoles, and some of the other high alcohol unibroue beers, with a deep ripe fruitiness wafting upwards. The body is an odd murky brown colour with a tinge of burgundy, and it sits under a constantly replenished off-white head. The flavour was very intense and fruity, with a huge warming finish. The alcohol seems reasonably well-integrated into the drink, but nonetheless hits pretty early. Thick, almost syrupy, mouth feel, with aggressive carbonation exploding flavour on the taste buds. A nicely souped-up version of the regular Aventinus, but it loses points because I couldn’t imagine being able to drink too much else after polishing off a half liter of this.
nqualls (575), Tennessee, USA Dec 1, 2008 Bottle. Poured a cloudy brown color with a small white head. Aroma of wheat and bananas. Flavor was sweet with bananas and a good alcohol warming finish. I prefer the regular Aventinus, but this was good. mjs (646), Helsinki, Finland Nov 28, 2008 (Bottle) Dark brown. Cloudy. Quickly disappearing medium sized fizzy white head. Malty aroma with banana, bit like sahti. Full bodied palate with lot of carbonation. Banana, alcohol, malts, salty liquorice and sweetness in strong taste. Long lasting aftertaste wiht banana and sweetness. Archibaldo de la Cruz (174), Finland Nov 28, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma is sweet, banana, some fruits and wheat. The flavour is sweet malt with notes of wheat, banana, raisin, yeast and some alcohol in the finish. Medium to full-bodied. Very nice brew, but I prefer the normal Aventinus. mikkopen (139), Oulu, Finland Nov 20, 2008 Hazy dark brown colour, thin light beige head. Strong aroma of banana and wheat, with some spices and a hint of alcohol. A bit too much carbonation on the palate. Malty banana flavour, with alcohol very clearly present. Long warm aftertaste. luttonm (96), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Hazy, deep brown with creamy head. Bright carbonation, not too heavy on the tongue. Caramel and anise on the nose. Flavor is a bit tart/sour with lots of bright malts. Sticky-sweet, very concentrated flavor. Wonderful, a staple.
