Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

I've recently had this on draft at the Buckeye Brewing Company. This is probably the best beer I've ever had! The bottled version was very, very good, but the draft version blows the bottle away. I highly recommend it if you get the chance to try it on tap. It's all this and a stick of bubble gum too!Deep mohogany hazy beer, nice purpley/red highlights, great head retention and lace on sides of glass. Aroma is very strong clove, bubble gum, banana, wheat malt, peppery, plummy, and a hint of diacetyl. Alcohol also appears in aroma as it warms. Clove and malt flavor also up front with dark fruit and alcohol playing supporting rolls; finishes drier than expected for a very malty beer. Very well balanced. Alcohol is very subtle warming and not noticeable in the draft version making this a very dangerously good beer. Higher carbonation lends to lighter than actual body. Very good beer on a cold winter night, or a hot summer day. If you are able to have this on tap, I highly recommend it!

Bottle. Poured a cloudy brown color with a small white head. Aroma of wheat and bananas. Flavor was sweet with bananas and a good alcohol warming finish. I prefer the regular Aventinus, but this was good.

(Bottle) Dark brown. Cloudy. Quickly disappearing medium sized fizzy white head. Malty aroma with banana, bit like sahti. Full bodied palate with lot of carbonation. Banana, alcohol, malts, salty liquorice and sweetness in strong taste. Long lasting aftertaste wiht banana and sweetness.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma is sweet, banana, some fruits and wheat. The flavour is sweet malt with notes of wheat, banana, raisin, yeast and some alcohol in the finish. Medium to full-bodied. Very nice brew, but I prefer the normal Aventinus.

Hazy dark brown colour, thin light beige head. Strong aroma of banana and wheat, with some spices and a hint of alcohol. A bit too much carbonation on the palate. Malty banana flavour, with alcohol very clearly present. Long warm aftertaste.

Bottle. Hazy, deep brown with creamy head. Bright carbonation, not too heavy on the tongue. Caramel and anise on the nose. Flavor is a bit tart/sour with lots of bright malts. Sticky-sweet, very concentrated flavor. Wonderful, a staple.
