Magic_dave6 (4000), London, Greater London, England Oct 4, 2008 Bottle in the porterhouse. Alround rating: Showing signs of age, dark plum like fruits, oxidised sherry madera wine notes, loads of brown candy sugar like sweetness. Perhaps one of the hardest to drink beers ever, like along the lines of a fresh thomas hardy as its too carbonated, but it is quite tasty. 17thfloor (723), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2008 [2007 Bottle] Pours a murky purple brown with a fine off-white froth and some larger floaties. Sweet fruity pungent aroma, very complex, lavender, raisin, banana, spices, vinous and some smoke? It smells like cinnamon-raison bread. Super sweet sugary raisin first taste. A bit tangy with metallic notes and some very ripe banana and caramelized brown sugar as well. Juicy plum finish. A definite sipper. Super silky smooth body, not syrupy at all despite the concentrated flavor. craftycarl21 (211), South Hero, Vermont, USA Oct 3, 2008 pours a dark almond with a frothy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is very strong, with banana, grain, malt, and maybe even some strawberry or cherry. Flavor is excellent, with more spices along with the sweet fruitiness. Palate is very nice, drinkable but not light in the slightest. Very good brew. tgncc (295), Bellmore, New York, USA Oct 1, 2008 The appearance of this is beautiful, a nice dark brown, like maple syrup, or dark chestnuts. Strong cabonation leads to a nice off-white foam. The aroma is also beautiful. It is like the most pleasant qualities of a weizen-bock, only more concentrated. Strong aroma of banana, clove, wheat. Flavor is STRONG! A pleasing mixture of spices like clove, a reasonable (and far from overbearing) sweetness, and the grainy taste of wheat bread. Bready and a bit fruity on the finish. Excellent beer overall. BTW, the Kulmbacher Eisbock also claims the same story (in the commercial description) of a careless worker inadvertantly freezing beer and creating the eisbock. Foolish_Mortal (948), San Diego, California, USA Sep 30, 2008 11.2oz bottle. 2007 vintage. Murky dark brown color with a thin film of tan colored head. Sharp clovey phenolics and banana/bubblegum esters in the aroma with tinges of alefruit. Cloying fig and raisin malt flavors explode up front. Heavy estery fruit and candy components. Raisinbread, caramel segue into the finish. Hints of wheaty graininess in the finish, with some alcohol and a heavy residual sweetness met with yeast flavors. Mouthfeel is heavy, unctuous.
