COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Poured from $5 / 11.2 oz’er - Wow! Don’t think I have encountered something like this before! Quite intense ruddy hues and intense flavors! Lots of alcohol comes through, but it blends well the malts and smooth wheat. Very happy to encounter this heavy-hitter in battle.

Pours clear amber brown with a short tan head diminishing rapidly to nothing, no lacing. (3/5) Nose is banana, dark boozy fruit, toffee and raisins, mild yeasty wheat. (8/10) Taste is moderately strong sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Full bodied, low carbonation, lingering boozy finish. (4/5) I want to call bull on the origin story (a shipment partially froze in unheated transport during the 1930’s). Yes, partial freezing will concentrate the flavour by removing water - kind of the opposite of the “Angel’s Share” alcohol loss - but that only works if you remove the ice. It doesn’t work with a sealed container that will rupture during freezing. Maybe, just maybe, a wooden barrel would expand enough to allow partial freezing - but you’d still have to remove the water ice before drinking... Though, now it occurs to me that if you just had a chunk of ice still present in the barrel when you tapped it... hmmm... OK, maybe it’s viable. Regardless of the validity of the origin story, this is one heckuva beer. Flavours are very similar to an Abt - deep, dark, and rich - and despite the huge ABV, are extremely palatable. And man, does the ABV sneak up on you! This is a great beer to get very, very drunk with - or better yet, to get someone else very, very drunk with. (16/20)

Bottle at home bought at Biervana. 19th April 15. This is a beast of a beer, poured cloudy dark brown, aroma is pungent, banana and yeast evident with alcohol. Taste is banana, almonds, dark fruit, cloves and evident alcohol. This is a real sipper and a heavy going, but rewarding beer.

Fantastic beer! It’s a sweet, easy drinking and refreshing beer despite the 12% alcohol.

Bottle. Ruby-brown color. Great aroma: sweet, intensely fruity, plums, grapes, cake, caramel and raisins, sweet sherry. Taste: strong, sparkling, warming, dessert wine, dried and candied fruits (raisins, prunes, apricots, figs). Great beer!

Perfect amber color with nice highlights and a huge fine head. Aroma of toffee, malts, caramel, banana syrup. Taste is thick, more bananas, malts, spices, and a warming boozy feeling, but not unbalanced. Sweet, but it fits. Very smooth carbonation and the nice Weizen texture is still there. The perfect Eisbock in my opinion.

bottle in osaka from craft beer belly. dark brown with minimal head. High carbonation. Sweet rich aroma. flavour is toffee, caramel, raisin, a hint of weizen banana. warming alcohol on the finish. mild bitterness follows. Very good. But too rich to have more than 200 ml or so.

BOD 8/26/14. Dark brown pour. Outstanding head volume, poor lacing and almost normal retention. Wonderful nose of dark fruit (raisin, prune, date), hints of banana and clove over a rich malt base. As it warms, medicinal alcohol notes become dominant. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture. Normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the finish. The flavor profile is world class and packs a wallop. It begins with a wave of dark fruit, that is mostly prune, over a clove background that is always present. As the prune fades, a balancing malt sweetness emerges. The middle becomes a bit medicinal from the alcohol and has a subtle bitterness underneath. As the finish approaches, malts make their strongest showing over notes of clove and dark fruit. The finish is a long slow medicinal alcohol fade leaving a pucker and burn at the back of the throat.

Bottle: A murky coppery red with a off white head. Its aroma is bananas, dark fruit. The flavor is caramel, bananas and some spiciness. The texture is creamy and a little thick. The finish is a dry and has a bit of a numbing mouth feel.
