Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Poured from $5 / 11.2 oz’er - Wow! Don’t think I have encountered something like this before! Quite intense ruddy hues and intense flavors! Lots of alcohol comes through, but it blends well the malts and smooth wheat. Very happy to encounter this heavy-hitter in battle.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 5D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 2927260214. AROMA: sweet malty aromas with some esters reminiscent of dried grapes and prunes. strong vinous alcohol aroma present with a port like character and some bready-like notes. no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: deep brown color and hazy with some material in suspension. average deep ivory head with good retention. viscosity derived from alcohol with pronunced legs. TASTE: sweet malty character with some caramel and vinous notes, balanced by a strong alcohol presence that is not harsh or solventy. Low bitterness just needed to balance the residual malt sweetness. low esters giving a somewhat clean lager profile. finishes sweet. PALATE: full and velvety body, reminding a liquor. low carbonation. very present alcohol warmth. OVERALL: an extremely delicious lager with a great balance between malt and alcohol.

A great beer! Pours a dark brown colour with a small head that vanishes quickly because of the 12%, which may dominate for some people It has a full mouth feel and the prominent flavour is dark chocolate. It is a well balanced beer which adds to it’s greatness.

Aroma is dark fruits, brown sugar, wild yeast and sweet wheat. Taste is a light sweet grain body, sweet fruits and a rich sweetness. A fairly substantial alcohol kick at finish. Appearance is a murky brown with a thin pearl head that retains poorly.

This must be only the 2nd or 3rd Eisbock I have had, but they are constantly one of my favorite styles. The flavor is extremely complicated. It’s wheaty and super strong. It’s hard to go wrong with a 12% alcohol beer.

0,33 bottle purchased and consumed in Serbia. Dark brown hazy color close to coffee from filter machines, some sediment, off-white tick foamy head. Aroma of dark fruit jam, figs molasses, caramel. Mouth: extremely sweet and complex. Notes of dry fruit, candy cranberries, dried Italian figs, raisins. Very good contemplative beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lagerboy (1234) - British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 30, 2014
2013 limited edition boxed 500 ml bottle. Muddy murky dark brown, short lived tan foam. Aroma is portish, dark fruit and caramel. Taste is boozy ripe dark fruits, firm sweet toasted caramel malt, some chocolate and spice. Softer carbonation, fuller bodied, moderately hopped. Potent, complex, overrated and: DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)
