Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

Dark brown body with an initially big, fizzy, off-white head. The aroma is banana, wheat and cloves. The flavor is wheat, caramel, toffee, cinnamon and apples. The finish is long, slightly bitter and a bit tart as well. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with lively carbonation that bites the tongue. Impressive.

Dark brown and thick with clouds, with a an ample dense cream coloured head (they don’t get much better looking than this). A lot of cloves/banana typical aromas from a weizen, but there’s a good deal of complexity-- cinnamon, molasses, caramel. The palate is completely creamy, frothing up as soon as it hits my tongue. When it dwindles down, there’s still some considerable thick/sudsy/chewy/slippery texture to go along with the alcohol warming. The flavor surpasses the aroma’s complexity. Banana and cloves are immediate, apples, cinamon, honey, cream, caramel, grainy wheaty malt, and, of course, alcohol. There’s a sour apple finish with lingering hops (the only place in this beer I really tasted them). I really don’t like wiezens, and yet I really thoroughly enjoy this beer! (and am not just appreciating it for what it is)

Big lasting white head. Brown cloudy beer. Aroma is bananas/pears/cloves, soy sauce. Smells is very fruity whereas the flavour is a bit more complex. Tastes like raisins, sweet, and malty. Flavorful finish lingering fruity bitterness.

Deep amber under a big effervescing off white head. Banana, sour yeast, and raisins in a huge inviting aroma. Thick mouthfeel and a lively carbonation. Clove, banana, dark fruits, and brown sugar all contribute to a complex flavor. A little sour in the finish, but there is enough bitterness to leave the finish clean. This is a wonderful beer.

A tough poor, poured it carefully into a big mug, only to be rewarded with a 4 inch head that filled up the rest. The aroma was nice and full, ranging from banana to more grainy smell. Flavor has nice maltiness, nice weight with very well placed sour hint to it. A fair number of seemingly disparate elements that combine to make a quality beer. A definite recommendation.

An ugly duckling for sure, pours the color of pureed raisins with a thick tannish head. Huge aroma of artificial bannana and clove and ginger and darker fruits. Some unsweetened chocolate along with more clove, artificial bannana and yeast in the mouth. Huge malts presence of course. Slightly cloying. Huge beer. this would be outstanding with kraut and brats.

It was a nice change but not one I’d drink on a regular basis. A little too fruity and spicey for my tast. Reminded me of spiced cider.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2006 Bottle. Poured a hazy amber with a thick light-tan, almost white, head. The aroma was faintly sour, but then sweet and richly floral. That carries in to the flavor which is at first sweetly floral maturing into a rich maltiness with hints of dried fruit and aromatic herbs. The finish is a just barely bitter rounding out a very rich beer. Smooth and balanced in the mouth it drinks nicely.

Draught. Brownish colour. Powerful spice aroma and taste. Nice palate. Alcoholic aftertaste.
