Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 Bottle (500ml) - in tulip glass. Poured a deep, dark, murky, lively amber-brown - tons of creamy-frothy long-lasting off-white head; combined with the humidity-driven condensation, an entirely appetizing sight. Many aroma notes - sour wine & bread doughy yeast dominated at first, then sweet malt, spices (cloves & coriander), malt vinegar and peppercorns. Mouthfeel quite acidic, sweet and fizzy - but it worked. Flavour strongly of sweet malt, cloves and sourish wine, then steeped fruits - prune & raisin - noticeable alcohol, and a welcome dry hop finish at the end to keep it from being too sweet. Overall a challenging, quenching drink - lovely to look at, smell and taste, but loses a mark for a little too much acidity. The sourness is just right to off-set the sweetness. I’ll have this on hand all the time.

A complex beer. There is significant fruit in the nose as well as alcohol while cold. When it warms the alcohol aroma is gone but the fruit remains, along with a sour, yeasty aroma. Brown, with some sediment. The combination of sweet fruit and sour yeast works very well. A great beer. Could be heavier on the palate.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2009 Nice sweet aroma, vanilla. Tastes sweet, like a belgian abbey but its german. Roasty, sweet, earthy, wheaty in the finish. 8% abv. Excellent beer! Awesome glassware too, served at Redlight Redlight

Absolutely fantastic! Brown with a beige head that quickly disappeared. Amazing aromas that require careful dissection: toffee, nutmeg, vanilla, soft roasted malt, all wrapped together as more than the sum of their parts. Palate is terrifically flavourful without being overwhelming: roasted malt, raisins, caramel, and nutmeg/cloves. Perfect carbonation. Very smooth finish. Perfectly balanced so as not to be cloying. Alcohol sits quietly amongst all of this; warm without being harsh. One of the best!

Brown. Light tan head. Commercial deScription is the most accurate I’ve read, although I’m not sure about the "compact" part. Easy drinking at 8%. I like the eizbock better, but this is very good, also.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2010 as amazed as i was the first time i tried this diamond from the boys over there at Schnider. beautiful ruby color, amazing thick head that lasts to the last sip. Give me a 30-pack of this stuff! Now. Update: 5 years ago, I really loved this stuff. Now, I hardly ever buy it or drink it. My palate has changed. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for this beer though.

a brownish red color w/ a tan small ubbled head very frothy some signs of carbonation. Big in your face aroma is spicy of cinamaon and nutmeg and yeast, maybe a little doughy Palate is light and creamy flavor is warming but not alcoholic tastes of wheat and fig and plum. Somee good stuff but a bit wheat to score higher in my ratings. Thanks to Blake for sharing this one.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2006 Pours to a huge white head atop a hazy ruby/brown body that all but fully disapates. The aroma is strong. Yeasty, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, banana, clove. The flavor is cinnamon, banana, clove, yeast, wheat berries, banana bread. The flavor is well-blended. Sweet palate. Good carbonation and thickness. Damn this is good.

Bottle from Bitter Virtue. (BBE 28/09/05 Drank 02/07/05). Ruby colour with initially large loose head rapidly diminishing. Nothing about this beer is overdone. The spice, fruit, yeast and malt elements are all well balanced. The alcohol makes itself felt towards the end of the beer and helps to balance out some of the sweetness. Quite a light beer for its strength and it left me thinking about whether I really liked it or not - I think I did but it wasn’t exceptional.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2005 Very good, spicy nutty flavors. Slightly sweet finish. The bottle ended too soon on this one, it was very good. ABV not noticed at all.
