COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

Brown color; poor head retention. Mild aroma, caramel, oxidised. Fizzy texture, lean mouthfeel, with caramel flavor and some oxidisation; low bitterness and some alcohol feeling. Simple.

2009-03-17, draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, 9-5-8-4-17=43
Cloudy brown color; huge, thick head. Impressive aroma, with strong banana esters, but also spices (cloves), and clearly perfumy, soapy; later, bubblegum. Good body strength, caramel flavor, some residual sweetness (always less than I would like), nice mix of esters, delicate (banana, bubblegum and light cloves); the alcohol can be perceived, but it’s very low. Excellent.

Dark brown color; the big head reduces quickly, after some time it’s a still surface. It has a strong aroma of oxidized caramel, light vegetables and alcohol. Caramel flavor, lighty oxidized and nutty; the body is thinner than in a fresh bottle, and the bitterness almost gone. Interesting experience, but not the best beer for ageing.

2005-12-03, draught, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Cloudy dark amber color, big creamy head. Nice aroma, banana, malt. Medium body structure (but more than the bottles I tried recently), malty, fruity (banana), light herbs. Excellent!

Hazy amber color. Nice malt aroma and impressive body, malty, oily, wrapping, perfectly balanced. Powerful and very good!

This was extremely tasty, but not really my bag, baby. Dark and richly creamy, with a strong, very complex, and full bodied flavor. I tasted lots of rich caramel, and slightly peppery cloves and figs. I am told that every time you have this you discover something new about it, so I really look forward to the next time I can try it, but it is not something I would actively drink.

The aroma is a sweet wheat aroma with good malt notes. The color is an unclear dark brown and it has the best head I've ever seen in the fantastic beutiful glass. The flavor is sweet, strong, with a powerful wheat note, and lesser alcohol notes. It starts out as a light beer - even though its so strong, but the palate and alcohol stregth hits You in the end. The best wheat beer I've ever had.

The most complex beer I have tried to date. The flavors keep coming. Discover this beer! Cloves figs raisins champagne.

Wheaty, malt, syrupy smell. Vivaciously bubbling off-white head. Not as thick or dark as I had expected. Looks like a cola with a touch of cloudiness. Taste is fruity malt nose with clove or licorice spiciness and pine cone hoppyness. Aftertaste has enjoyable balance of hop/malt flavors and a definite alcohol presence. Carbonation is abundant throughout. I suddenly feel like im sitting next to a pine tree waiting to open presents. Christmas in July indeed!

on tap - extremely creamy and delicious. Tropics in the nose and mouth, slightly sweet. light chocolate note. Offsetting spiciness. Nice alcohol warmth.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2005 Dark amber/brown/orange with lots of haze and a large tan head. Yeasty, spicy, wheaty, mild alcohol, some clove, and plenty o’ banana. Good amount of malt as well with a bit of raisin. Medium to full bodied, creamy yet active. Great beer.

Pours a rich amber ruby color with a thick reactive head. Aroma of wheat, yeast, banana, clove, fruit. Flavors in addition to aroma with fig, complexly delicious. Warm alcohol mouthfeel with a dry finish. This is a good combination of flavors and has a good german wheat taste to it.

Groovy. Sweet and yeasty nose. Chocolate, sweet body with lots of carbonation. It finishes with usual bock bitterness and spice. Hides alcohol content well.

Thick thick dark creamy malty. A "big" beer with strong complex flavouring. Great if you like chewing your drink (and I do).
