UPDATED: JAN 22, 2005 Dark, murky, ever-so-faintly reddish brown. Creamy white head. Spotty lacing. This is an intense beer. Reminds me more of some of the yeastier belgian styles than it does an ordinary German wheat. Strongly spicy aroma--loaded with cloves with some fruity yeast esters as well. Full, round body. Creamy carbonation. Has a sharp, slightly tart bite up front. Sweetens as the beer progresses. Toffee, caramel, cloves, and brown sugar come to the fore. A warming alcohol presence helps hold things together. Short, slightly sweet, slightly hoppy finish. Leaves a bit of sticky residue on the tongue. Easily my favorite wheat beer I have tried to date.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Belgian, spicy aroma. Pours an amber brown, mid-range carbonation with a thick head. The mouthfeel starts off slow but becomes more complex as you drink it. The alcohol is dominant throughout, resulting in a drink that packs quite a wallop. A satisfying sipping beer.

This is one wonderful beer. Best served from bottle, not tap !! Leave about an inch in the bottle and shake it real hard then pour the remaining amount in your glass this will distribute the yeast.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
This wonderful beer poured a deep brown color with a medium head that quickly dissapated and lingered in bubbles upon the surface. The nose is floral with hints of spice and wood. A tingly carbonation on the tongue and a medium body. Hints of plum and a woody earthiness arose with some sour notes followed by cloves. A warming quality yet fully refreshin and fullfilling. A great beer!! Deserving of the overall rating.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2003 I like this beer. My first of the style. I dont like wheat beers but I guess a Weizen Bock is different. Higher alcohol content but I can hardly taste it. Aroma is of bananas but I dont taste them in the beer, thank god! Taste is very much like grapes with a hint of wheat, to me its similar to a red wine but maybe that's just me. It has a very creamy mouthfeel. This was a good choice and Im glad I gave it a shot. Try one if you havent!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown w/ shades of yellow & red. Pours w/ a massive head that settles relatively quickly. Banana, clove & sweet malt & even some chocolate on the nose. Creamy, full, carbonated feel. Banana, apple(?), toffee, honey, butterscotch(?) & pepper flavour. Finish is long & quite dry. Alcohol leaves a warming tingle on the tongue.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2003 Good double bock ale, Aventinus is quit an exceptional German beer. This is a dark amber wheat beer with a fruity aroma and a sweet finish. Definitely worth your time, effort, money, soberness, it’s strong. I am actually rerating this beer 6/6/03, every time I have this beer I enjoy it more. This sampling I noticed how naturally effervescent this beer is.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Fantastic nose—vanilla, caramel, cloves, cinnamon, malt, yeast, alcohol, apples, and pears. Incredibly smooth. Nice full mouthfeel. Not as complex as it smells, but still full of malt, vanilla, and roastiness. A hint of fruit. Pleasing. Rich swallow that is just slightly dry. Fantastic but too pricey here to have on a regular basis. Save for special occasions!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 20, 2005 Great big frothy head which lingers for quite a while. Aroma of wheat and spices (cloves very prominent). Little bit of dark fruit in there also. Excellent color of foggy dark orange/amber. Good carbnation which keep a thin layer of foam on the surface for the duration. Flavor is spicy with subltle wheat flavor behind. Slightly sweet and fruity also. Little bit of sourness in there with the fruit. Finish is creamy and smooth with slight sweet wheat overtones. Alcohol is well hidden. An excellent beer which should appeal to many different people with varying tastes.
