COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

From the moment of the first pour, I thought this looked and smelled like a Scottish Ale. The head developed in the same way, the color would be a perfect match, and there was this earthy maltiness right up front that was fantastic. From a taste standpoint, obviously, there’s no comparison to a Scots! I know nothing about wheats, and only a tiny bit about dopplebocks, so my comparisons here are to slim pickins’, but this is unique. The cloveiness in the taste took some getting used to, and I can tell that this is a superbly brewed beer. Like a couple of other raters, my overall and flavor scores are down a bit...it’s just a sweet, acquired taste, like my old dad used to tell me about martinis, and I ain’t acquired it yet. I can’t believe I was able to find this in Jackson, which is only 15 miles from me.

This beer brought me closer to true bliss than any other I have ever had. Wonderful finish, taste, aroma, color. Beware the kick - have two of these, call a taxi. Those in the Dallas/Ft Worth area can find this at Plano’s Bavarian Grill; see http://www.bavariangrill.com/beer.html for a list of what else they have. I too would put this in the dopple category rather than a weissbier.

The second weizenbock i have tried and although this is the standard, i think i prefer Victory’s Moonglow over this. That being said, this is an excellent beer, dark and cloudy with an awesome aroma typical of a wheat beer. Good malty backbone and definite banana and chocolate flavors and a nice finish. Great beer.

It smells great! The second time I tried this beer I added a point to flavor & palate... maybe the 1st was a little off.

Very good beer. Dark, strong and sweet. I could taste hints of plums and apricots. My only drawback with this beer is that it was a little too sweet for me. Otherwise an enjoyable beer. By the way, I think this beer should be categorized in the Doppelbock family, not the Wheat family.

This wheat doppelbock is malty with a nice wheatish accent. A contender for the throne.
