Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

Bottle at home. 0,5 L, this will do the trick. Clear dark amber/chestnut brown with white head. Very sweet and thick roasted caramel malts. Banana’s, bananacandy, a complex blend of spices and fruits. I taste a hidden light lambic sour, dried prunes, raisins, chestnut, grapes, cinnamon, laurel, licorice, pine resin, honey, maple syrup, alcohol, light layer of dustiness. Over medium sweet and light bitter. Full body, very malty, complex and balanced palate. Full mouthfeel, above average carbonation and long complex sweet, spiced and nutty finish. Very nice beer but this big bottle is gonna be overkill for me alone!

Drank liters of this when on Erasmus in Munich. Now, years later, I found this well aged bottle, and it’s even better then I remembered. Lovely sweet complexity.

From a bottle. Not my favourite style, well made but a touch too much of a spicy finish from the yeast. Not bad, just not for me.

Dark amber, hazy, fine and lasting mousse. Medium body, moderately flavored, low-key mouthfeel with low heat and carbonation, short palate. Moderately bitter, off-dry. Malty, barley drops taste, discrete ripe banana flavor. Pleasant but did not live up to the fame. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours with a creamy and quite generous head which slowly recedes. Aromas of plums or prunes, banana, raisins, figs, some red fruits/cherries. It’s relatively sweet but not over-sweet and with a nice thick mouthfeel, the alcohol is quite excellently hidden although it does start to come out when it warms a bit, generally a delicious beer that I’m happy to have ’rediscovered’ (last drank it about 10 years ago!) Definitely one to try :)

Excellent Doppelbock. Sweet and tasty. Fine medium body. You can apreciate the great wheat roasted malts in its delicated aroma. Overall, one of the best doppelbocks out there.

Bought this a couple of times from a local store. I’m convinced from other reviews that this is a remarkable brew, and that I’m picking up some old and stale bottles, because what I’m drinking doesn’t compare to the various Unibroue products, which I get fresh.
