Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

Pours dark with an amber tinge and a sizable head. The taste is quite something.. strong taste of banana associated with wheat beers. It has the same sweetness and alcoholic hit (straight to the head) that most strong Belgium beers have. The mouth feel is superb, silky smooth when it rolls around your mouth, this is something I love in a beer. Sometimes I think people are more generous with their ratings when beers make them this jolly!

Really interesting beer, it has faint weizen yeast aroma, combined with some stewed and boozy fruit influence. There is a sweet plum finish.

Shared with wim at my home. Light brown colored beer with medium off-white head and no carbonation visible. Herby cooked vegetable aroma. Medium sparkling palate. Finish is sweet fruited slightly hopped.

(50 cl bottle from local supermarket; BBD: January 30th 2016) Consumed alongside a dry matured beef steak and butterfried borettana onions. Poured at fridge temperature into a Maisel & Friends footed tulip reveals a hazy dark copper body with two finger creamy toffee head that fades somewhat yet leaving beautful lace. Aroma has notes of banana, raisins and bubblegum. Oily texture, medium body, soft carobonation and a lingering sweet finish that has only a lightly boozy touch. Flavour is sweet but never cloying and in a way that is well integrated with the flavour complexity and the ABV in a fashion that resembles some of the big Belgian beers. I can’t claim I understood the style before but this one is definitely warming me to it. The beer also seems to work nicely complementarily with the heavy richness of the beef and to elevate the sweetness of the onions with its complexity. Definitely recommended and great value at a discounted supermarket price of 1,50€!
