Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

Corpo medio, effervescenza vivace e struttura setosa.

500ml bottle from Summerhill LCBO. 8.2% Alc./Vol. Pours a hazy ruby brown colour with one finger of lasting white head. Aroma of cherries, yeast. Taste is so complex that it’s hard to identify each flavour. Cherries and bananas are present for sure along with some plum notes. Finishes a bit spicy.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A very dark brown hazy coloured beer with a spicy plum, marzipan and chocolate flavours followed by burnt currants, sherry and liquorice notes on the warming finish. Superb!

500ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours hazy muddy brown with orange hints. Gorgeous overripe banana aroma. Will never get tired of that. Creamy textures with luscious banana & vanilla yeast esters. One of the greats.

Pours a very murky dull green-brown with an immediately vanishing head. A smoky character on the nose with date and tartness. Moderately thick. Drinks like a quad with a faint tartness and some earthy notes at the finish.

Butelka 0,5 l. Barwa bursztynowa ciemna, lekko metna. Piana wspaniale puszysta, jednolita, stabilna. Zapach lekko owocowy, drozdzowy. Poczatek bananowy z dodatkiem gozdziköw. Wyrazny ciemny owoc sliwka.

50cl @ bottle. Scura di stile tedesco. Bottiglia troppo frizzantina ma comunque piacevolissima.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2015 Bottle: Swampy brown pour; tons of haze with a puffy, off-white, well retaining head. Aroma of bubblegum, spicy yeast, clove, banana, apple skins, mild prune, soft wheat, modest phenols, black cherry, dry wheat, toasted caramel, a hint of cardamom & cocoa dust. Pretty complex. First sip coats the palate with a blanket of toasted wheat. Lots of bubblegum, banana, & clove from the yeast esters alongside a moderate alcoholic warmth. Notes of overripe dark fruits, corianders, orange, prune, white pepper, dates, & slightly stale toffee towards the finish. Maybe just a touch over-carbonated. Lofty mouth feel. Overall, nice stuff, though I probably prefer Weihensteph’s Vitus.

Bottiglia. La bevevo spesso qualche anno fa in un pub fornito di birre di buona qualità. Gusto molto complesso ma grddevole
