MrBunn (892), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 13, 2008 500 mL bottle releases a dark brown liquid that puts out quite a head. Aromas are wonderful... bananas, cloves, candi sugar, brown sugar, plums and the like. Dang, the flavor is spot on and this is wonderful stuff. I can’t believe I haven’t tried this before. THe banana and clove flavors come through stronger than in most of the other weizens I’ve tried, which is an interesting and nice touch. I have to say that I completely enjoyed this.
wheresthepath (249), Buckinghamshire, England Oct 9, 2008 [500ml bottle at the Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield] Gorgeous branded glass with this one. Chestnut black with a large beige head. Some carbonation - I would prefer a little less, but it’s in no way excessive. Tatses of raisins, prunes, figs, treacle, cloves, orange, plums and all things Christmassy (um... apart from turkey...). Like Christmas pudding in a glass - you could imagine using this as a sauce to go on your desert. Despite the sweet, rich flavours and the high ABV, this beer surprisingly does not leave a sticky mouthfeel - although I swear I could still taste . Very very good indeed as a winter dessert beer - although not something I’d particularly want on a summer afternoon! Very impressive stuff! c9
tedovertu (132), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Oct 8, 2008 Raisins, prunes, and apple in the aroma. Small off-white fully diminishing head. Small floating particles. Dark clear amber color. Moderately sweet initial flavor. Medium bodied and a lightly astringent finish.
Great beer. hobbersr (10), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Oct 8, 2008 Pours a very dark purple with a thick head. Smells of grapes and spices. Tastes of raisins, spices and a pleasnat bitterness at the finish. Really good, complex beer. pj1855 (74), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Oct 7, 2008 Updated: Oct 8, 2008Pours a dark amber color. Fizzy off white head that quickly diminishes. Sweet spica Aroma. Excellent mouth feel on this beer. Very smooth. Fairly sweet through out wth a lightlly astringent finish. Lively carbonation. kiwibt (4), , New Zealand does not count Oct 4, 2008 Bottle, Pours a cloudy brown with a large lasting head. Aroma of cloves, chocolate and slight phenolics.
Flavour is a very good balance of chocolate, caramel.
Overall a very good beer, the 8 % alcohol is well hidden and the wheat sourness balances the chocolate body.
Very well made.
