4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 a_cross (360) - Poole, Dorset, - NOV 15, 2012Murky reddish brown, dense white head; aroma of sweet malt, candy fruits and booze; taste of caramel, Christmas cake, marmalade with a hint of the usual banana and clove wheat beer staples, perhaps some cherries in there too; a full mouthfeel and a boozy finish; a somewhat decadent, complex winter wheat treat.

Dark amber with wonderful lacy white head. Banana, bubblegum aroma. Deep complex flavor in a medium body.

Bottle found in Yellowknife; whatzit2ya?!? As an aside - I can’t believe how warm it is here. Like, it’s freaking warm! The sun has been searing through these little clouds and it’s totally not even close to setting at half past nine. But sadly it’s kinda raining, but the sun is still, like, out there, like Freddy Mercury! So anyways this thing pours sooper sweet with a huge head that actually stays around long enough for some beer rater to blab about where they are; the body is a nice foggy brown-gold, and if the head had stayed around a few more minutes it would’ve been perfect. The aroma is all coriander and orange, orange rind even, possibly even some shoe leather notes in there - high quality layering gives this one top marks. So, why can’t some damned Vancouver brews do this? How do frikkin’ Germans from a million miles away manage to bottle this stuff? Food for the rain-soaked types, I tellz ya. The flavour is a soft mix of coriander and smoked barley; a bit of an odd mix, but it’s balanced well, and is a drinkable brew. And indeed caveat emptor: I just read that this thing is 8.2%, and it’s very rare to taste a beer with such high ABV that does not end up like watered down gasoline. Well done, indeed.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 nealblind (120) - USA - JUN 13, 2013
Opaque brown pour. Big white head that stays. Smells of Belgian banana yeast, raisins, apricots. Big banana yeasty bready gingerbread (cloves) flavor with noticeable alcohol drying. Moderate sweetness. Good creamy mouthfeel. The high alcohol level is sorta pushing the limit here on an otherwise subtle refined beer.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Andy_ (147) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 10, 2013
Opaque brown coloured beer with huge beige head. The aroma is pretty hefeweizen type with some fresh banana aromas. The taste begins in a hefeweizen style but ends up resembling a dark trappist beer in the sweetness and dark fruit aromas. The finish is rather bitter.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NeoHippie2 (474) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JUN 5, 2013
2004 vintage bottle. Dark brown pour with a good deal of sediment. Big dried fruit aromas on the nose with malt and yeast as well. I get a lot of raisin with this one. Nice malty flavor with the dried fruit coming through as well. Rich finish, respectable brew.

Tap. Caramel color, small white head. Dark fruit first, smooth late. Very tasty. Combines the taste of an unfiltered wheat with a dark belgian taste.

An absolutely delicious beer. There is a slight tinge of sour that just underlies the fruit notes of apricot and fig before mellowing out to the toasted nut finish. There is not much on the nose being a doppelbock and the appearance is also normal for style. A dark unfiltered beer with a slight hint of red at the edges. The palate is perfect, combining the crisp carbonation with a nice light mouth feel reminiscent of a porter to me. Overall one of my favorite beers.
