COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

The aroma is sweet, caramel and fruity. the taste likewise. There’s a slight hint of alcohol, but you’d never guess at its true abv. The beer sits well on the palate, and goes down very smoothly. The problem I have with this beer is that by the time you’re at the end of your first bottle, you realize you have no interest ina second -- the sweetness that was so welcome at the beginning has become cloying.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2008 Bottle. Tasted again, more than 18 months since the last time. I just thought that I should add that my first thought when smelling it this time, was a fine Belgian triple. There’s some of that thoughts when I taste it as well, and it leaves me warm inside, and very content. A really lovely weizenbock. By the way, I think I remember the Weizen Bock from Haandbryggeriet (N) to be a bit fizzy, but I’m not sure anymore, as Aventinus has a quite heavy carbonation as well. Anyhow, I’m really fond of Aventinus, and my rating stands unaltered. (070912)

Bottled. Slightly hazy, amber beer with a thick, beige head. Heavy aroma with sweetness, toffee, cloves, dried fruits, a little banana and a hint of alcohol. It is quite fizzy in the mouth, but not as sticky as expected, and flavors of caramell, cloves, hops, alcohol, banana and dried fruits swirls around your mouth along with some yeasty notes, finishing off in a sweet, yet bitter, warming aftertaste that leaves you very satisfied. Full-bodied classic beer, and it was a good choice for this cold, snowy evening. It left me very pleased. (060216)

Bottle. Nice dark brownish colour with a light brown bubbly head. Aroma of roasted malts, yeast, some sweetness and alcohol. Great bustling mouthfeel! The flavour is quite malty, fruity (raisins and figs) and bit spiced (clover) with the alcohol again appearing as a positive input. Long lasting afertaste with some acidic touch on the tongue. A very nice warming DOUBLE wiezenbock from Upper Bavaria. A truly great beer.

Muddy brown-red colour with great white head. Banana, fruitiness, some citrus and plums in the aroma. The taste is equally impressive, with the caramel taking over, lending a sweet edge to the taste. A lightly vinious touch enhances the fruity flavours in a long-lasting aftertaste.

Cloudy amber with a big white head. Banana and bubblegum dominates the flavour. Sweet with a slightly dry finish, and a hint of roast flavour.

Aventinus has a nice head and a rather brown color with a red hue. The aroma has wonderful notes of wheat, malt and fruit and the mouth feeling is smooth. The flavour is sweet and has a lot of different notes of dark, ripe fruits, banana, nuts and wheat. It’s a full bodied and heavy beer with the lightness of a wheat beer. So far I haven’t yet met a wheat as nice as this one, it’s a sheer pleasure to drink it.
