boFNjackson (536), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 18, 2007 Bottle... Poured a very hazy brown with a thick white head that lasted and evolved into a nice settlement on the surface of the beer. Strong malty and caramel aroma. Mild palate with strong flavors of yeast, malt, caramel, leafy spices like clove or tea and a really awesome bitter/sour finish. This is one of my new favorites from Germany. I may end up purchasing this one again.
hobbersr (7), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada does not count Oct 8, 2008 Pours a very dark purple with a thick head. Smells of grapes and spices. Fizzy off white head that quickly diminishes. Sweat spica Aroma. Excellent mouth feel on this beer. Very smooth. Farily sweet through out wth a lightlly astringent finish. Lively carbonation. kiwibt (4), , New Zealand does not count Oct 4, 2008 Bottle, Pours a cloudy brown with a large lasting head. Aroma of cloves, chocolate and slight phenolics.
Flavour is a very good balance of chocolate, caramel.
Overall a very good beer, the 8 % alcohol is well hidden and the wheat sourness balances the chocolate body.
Very well made. adjdleon (1), , Alabama, USA does not count Oct 4, 2008 Bottle. This is a great beer with a perfect hint of caramel and sweetness, and good alcohol notes near the end. One of my favorites upon arriving home from work.
esox (111), Oulu, Finland Oct 2, 2008 Bottled. Porus hazy amber to brown. The large head really looks nice: smooth and creamy. The aroma is full of malty sweetness, earthy yeast and lots of dark and sweet fruits like dates or raisins. Banana esther is luckily not that overly presented. Delicate spiciness especially int he finish with clear cloves aroma and less obvious peppery tones. Alcohol is barely noticeable in taste but it warms up nicely. Tha flavor is sweetish wheat-malty and with brown sugar or syrup. More sour towards the finish due to yeast and fermented fruits. There´s also light bitteration in the finish. Palate is full bodied and amazingly soft. Carbonation is just perfect: it´s enough to give some spine without being fizzy at all. Leaves sticky syrupy feeling on your lips. You can easily tell by palate that this is a strong beer but still... 8,2 ABV?! Amazing. Aventinus really is a magnificent combination of complexity and supreme drinkability.
