Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Pours deep hazy brown with a lively tan head. Aroma is dark and fruity and spicy. You just KNOW it’s going to be a good beer. Taste is just an amazing sweetness. No bitterness here at all. Just an amazing dark fruity sweetness with mild spice and coffee-like flavor towards the end. I could drink this forever. Please stay on my tongue. Palate is nice and creamy. Goes down so smoothly. I think this could be a good starting point for new craft beer drinkers as well as being a benchmark not just of this style, but for beers in general. The first time I had a sip of this beer, it blew my mind. Literally.

Bottle at home, 18th October 14, pours a big head, that dissipates, dark murky, red brown. Aroma, dried fruit, banana, slight spice and liquorice. Taste is rich, smooth, banana, dough, dates, some toffee, quite sweet, Not bad

it does, however, produce a great head and a big bodied beer, but the flavor and overall impression were were pretty good, but not quite what i was hoping for based on previous ratings. 8/09-one of the few i’ve had to re-visit. Had with Schneider Weiss & Hopfenweiss...more balanced than i remember, and quite tasty. Worthy of a 4+ rating. Maybe i had one past it’s prime?"

Drank with Kaspar @ Cafe Jos 16-10-2014. Interesting beer this one. Weizen hints are still present, but it also tastes like a bok. Good combination. Also hints of fruits and sugar, the beer is moderate sweet. This moderate sweetness is however a bit too dominant, the taste could have been deeper, more compelling. Still nice beer.

Tap at Sly Fox. Amber/brown pour with foamy, creamy head. Aroma is fig, pistachio, dark fruits. Lots of banana and plum flavors here. Chewy malt, brown sugar/toffee quality. Fairly sweet and warming. Solid.

0.5l bottle poured in a my Weihenstephaner Weizen glass. Delicious beer. Simple like that. The delicacy of a Weissbier, the power of a good bock with a fruity and spicy bouquet. A: Cloudy brown color with a creamy and persistent head. High carbonation. Dirty as a typical Weissbier (looks like thin wheat in the bottom of the bottle) S: Pure pleasure. Very fruity and spicy. German yeasts and caramel malts are relevant. Less banana flavors than a traditional Weiss. T: Good as expected. German yeasts and malt are again, relevant. Toffee and very light liquor upfront taste. Not bitter at all (only perfume hops could be felt). Balanced sweet. M: Heavy and creamy body. Good carbonation, balanced sweet in the beginning and very low bitterness in the end. D: High. Alcohol is almost imperceptible despite the 8.2 ABV. High quality German beer. [ BA Review @ 2/4/2010 ]

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2014 Eight-month-old in a 0,5 l bottle. Dark red-brown colour (only if you hold it into the light; if not it is just a murky brown). Hazy liquid with off-white head which fades quickly. Aroma/flavour of dark fruits, molasses, rock candy, figs, chestnuts and dates. Slightyl sweet taste with a hint of bitterness. Full mouthfeel, average carbonation. Overall a very good beer. Flavour reminds me of a belgian quadrupel. In comparison, it lacks a bit of intensity regarding aroma and flavour.

From a bottle. Pours dark brown with thick, creamy off-white head. Smells like caramel and bread malts, figs, spice, floral hops, dates, and sugar. Tastes rich, like sweet malt with strong dark fruit, light floral notes, light spice, mildly sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.

The Eisbock variety of this is the best beer I ever tasted, so I was very interested to see how the more "standard" variety compares. It smells equally good - brownish odour with wood, oil, cheese and cured meats in the bitones, dark chocolate brown with attractive brownish yellow foam. Tastes of soy, chocolade, beechwood, plum, rock candy and many other nuances that I can’t place. An excellent beer, also when not frozen.

Pours dark roasted amber color with a beige dissipating head. Aroma is bananas and dates. Flavor is complex fruity with chocolate, banana, dates, and sweet malt. Very smooth not sickly sweet even though it has a lot of sugary flavors. The sweet palate balances out the weight of the 8.2% alc. Very nice evening sipper!
