KingofCastle (189), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 27, 2007 Updated: Jun 28, 2007 bottle: Thanks to Lord Beamish for this little gem. Unlike the gastly high alcohol content Quebec beers with pics of guys canoeing towards a waterfall, this beer actually has flavour without being overwhelmed by its high alcohol content. Good example of style and huge flavours of fruit, spice & yeast ala Chimay, but not for everybody. I’d rather have a flavourful pale lager or pilsner, that doesn’t require such a time committment & is far more approachable. Do we really need a beer with this much flavour, that is also this strong? I do think the monk on the bottle looks very authoritative - maybe monks have the kind of time to drink octane like this & nurse pints of this stuff for hours on end. I can picture myself enjoying this in winter or late fall when a football game is on the tube around 7 & I need to feel good but don’t’ want to drink a lot of beer - 3 beers for the price of 1. But then again I’d just rather have a nice ESB, ale or stout (Beamish). This beer will taste good as it warms but be prepared to be knocked on your ass.
CaryTheDude (489), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Nov 28, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. Smells like a cross between a quad and an imperial weizen. Complex as shit. Oh and tastes awesome. About as wheaty as a beer can get, but a nice complement of dark fruits makes this one excellent brew. Homer321 (120), Rockledge, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 Smells slightly metallic and slightly sweet smell as it warms. smooth, sweet, slightly milky taste that is very rich. A nice balance of wheat and fruitiness with darker ans sweeter flavors as it warms. A very nice beer. I only wish it were lower in alcohol so I could drink more! ericandersnavy (199), denton, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2008 bottle picked up at metzlers in denton, tx. poured a cloudy brown with an off white head. aroma of caramel, floral notes, spices, and fruits. flavor had some caramel, dry spice, and alcohol. overall i was not real impressed, maybe it was past its prime. will have to try again. moseslikesbeer (176), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. aroma of spice, yeast and fruit. Flavor was sweet and mild and malty and just damn good! lol A nice smooth drinker this one is and will be having this again. oldrtybastrd (1793), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Oct 30, 2008 Shared this one w/ SkyCop32. Picked up at Maruhn Getränke in Darmstadt, also picked up the authentic glassware pictured to the left. Pours a crisp cola brown color. Aromas of clove, banana, fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is alcoholic clove and spice with a bittersweet finish. Good beer!
