eaglefan538 (2115), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 6, 2006 Updated: Jun 30, 2007 Re-rate, March 07 on draft at Ludwig’s: Fine stuff, no need to add more dribble to this text. Re-rate, Feb 07, non-vintaged bottle this time: Despite being an early review from me, my first one seems to do it justice. Slight alcohol detected this time through, probably because I bought the standard bottle unaged, but it was still wonderful, super delightful, very smooth, as good as a weizenbock can get. The rating is getting bumped a bit for its within style quality (a few more weizenbocks under my belt now). Having an Aventinus Weiznestarkbier glass made the crowned fluffy head and overall appearance all the better too. An excellent beer. Original rating follows with more descript comments.... Original rating: Bottle from 2001 batch. This one exceeded all expectations. Fantastic. Pour resulted in a brown-amber colored beer with a single finger of tan head on top. The head settled, but remained as a persistent (to the last sip) thin covering on top of the beer, that actually laced ok the whole drink. The aroma was sweet, clove-like, accompanied by bananas and a light roastedness. The flavor was based on a sweet weizen base with spices (cloves) and some roasted caramel type malts detected. Not as dry as many a dunkelweizen, and certainly richer and more complex, this one was very enjoyable. Dark fruits and chocolate hide beneath it all and come out more as it warms. Lots of stuff going on here, and the alcohol is super smooth. I’ll have to try a recent bottling to see how this is unaged.
CaryTheDude (489), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Nov 28, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. Smells like a cross between a quad and an imperial weizen. Complex as shit. Oh and tastes awesome. About as wheaty as a beer can get, but a nice complement of dark fruits makes this one excellent brew. Homer321 (120), Rockledge, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 Smells slightly metallic and slightly sweet smell as it warms. smooth, sweet, slightly milky taste that is very rich. A nice balance of wheat and fruitiness with darker ans sweeter flavors as it warms. A very nice beer. I only wish it were lower in alcohol so I could drink more! ericandersnavy (199), denton, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2008 bottle picked up at metzlers in denton, tx. poured a cloudy brown with an off white head. aroma of caramel, floral notes, spices, and fruits. flavor had some caramel, dry spice, and alcohol. overall i was not real impressed, maybe it was past its prime. will have to try again. moseslikesbeer (176), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. aroma of spice, yeast and fruit.
