Deep and complex – for big and relaxing moments by the fire.

Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, “Kaiserschmarrn” (pancakes), “Elisenlebkuchen” (christmas cookies) or blue cheese.

Oldest wheat doppelbock of Bavaria. Since 1907. 18.5°

A: The pour is a dark caramel color with plenty of hazy reddish highlights. A tall creamy off-white head sits on top. S: The smell is clove, banana and raisin and yeast. T: This beer is very sweet. The noble hops are fighting a losing battle here. The finish struggles towards dryness, thankfully, otherwise this beer would be too sweet except for sipping or drinking with food. M: The body is in line with the flavor: medium to heavy. Texture is creamy and lingers just a little on the palate. Carbonation is adequate for the heavy sweetness. D: This beer was good, and I think it probably has come to define the style. Therefore, it would be hard to rate it low. It is not really my favorite style due to the intense sweetness, but it does manage to bring together two very different styles: hefeweizen and doppelbock. I guess there is some value in that.

As Schneider Weisse Tap 6 Mein Aventinus. A 500ml bottle with a best before date of 19th May 2017 and poured into a Riedel weizen glass. It poured a slightly cloudy dark amber brown colour with a big four finger white head that dissipated slowly to a nice thin creamy cap and left nice lacing. Aromas were of biscuit malt, wheat, banana and clove. Tastes of banana bread, brown sugar, clove with a touch of plum, caramel and apple skin. Creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall very nice and easy to drink which is great since I can now (finally) get this regularly.

As Unser Aventinus. Pours a deep brown with a low off white head. Aromas of raisins, muscovado sugar, roasted nuts, plums, oak, ripe apple, dried marinated fruit. Taste is nutty with caramel notes and dark bread. Mouthfeel is quite substantial and somewhat creamy with moderate carbonation. Very good indeed

Keg @ Victorian Craft Beer Cafe, Halifax. Clouded brown with a thin head. Has a fairly heavy sweetness, which is not overbearing, but certainly hides its strength. There’s plenty of weiss character in its nose.

500ml bottle BB 14/9/2016 Fruity yeasty aroma. Hazy brown color with generous tan head. Subdued phenolic taste with sweet fruity and slightly cloying alcohol warming finish.

Aventinus poured a deep amber body, my only complaint about this beer was the carbonation. It is bottle fermented which should give it massive amounts of carbonation, however mine was rather flat, with very little carbonation and a few yeast floaters. Aromas of banana, spices, and some fruit notes coming through. Flavor was similar to the aromas with banana, fruit, sweet malts and a little caramel to boot. Overall it is a very good beer, and i cant wait until i get some more. Originally rated on 10/9/2008.

Bottle from the schneiderweisse kulturbox. Had this one for Three weeks and I finally have the right time to try it. Smells of banana and sweet hops. Taste is immidiately full of the Weizen notes, body brings a bit bitterness with it and finish a bit of sweetness. Great Balanced taste, you don’t notice the increased alcohol at all.
