Exclusively brewed in reminiscence of Georg Schneiders privilege of being part of the world famous Munich Octoberfest until 1942 when his renowned "Weisse Brauhaus im Tal, Munich" was destroyed. Enjoy and celebrate!

Schneider’s regular hefeweizen (TAP 7) is one of my all-time favorite examples of the style. From what I can tell, Weisen Edel-Weisse (TAP 4) appears to be more or less the same recipe, but brewed with all-organic ingredients. Maybe because it’s organic or maybe it’s because this bottle was about five months old at the time, but this beer isn’t as good as the regular edition. Not that it’s bad, in fact, it’s got all the things I prefer in the style, just not as strong as I’d prefer.

I poured a 500ml bottle into a weizen glass. It was bottled on 8/2/14 and cost $4.29 ($0.25 per ounce).

Appearance: Dark golden hue; only slightly hazy (due to the age of the bottle, a lot of the yeast was caked to the bottom of the bottle). Plenty of visible spastic carbonation. Pours to a large, white, foamy head which retains well but doesn’t leave much lacing.

Smell: Milder than most, with the standard banana bread aroma, though it seems to have more of a spice character than usually found in the style.

Taste: The best way to describe the palette here would be to picture a typical authentic German hefeweizen and then weaken it a little. I’d probably chalk the mildness up to the fact the bottle was rather old at the time. I’d like to think a fresher serving would be much more robust. Also, instead of relying heavily on the banana character from the yeast esters, it ops for Noble hop spice. There’s notes of lemonpeel or saison-like black pepper, which is nice, but it’s still too mild. What’s interesting about this brew is that it’s actually made with Cascade hops – an American varietal. They seem to impart a subtle grassy character to the beer, but don’t do much in the way of bitterness or piney flavor (nor should they considering the style). Overall, this is a fine brew, but this brewery makes better examples of the style.

Drinkability: Schneider Weisen Edel-Weisse is refreshing while in the mouth, and finishes clean, which is nice. Though it should have much more body and robustness for a beer with a 6.2% ABV. This drinks and feels like something much more overtly sessionable. In fact, the thinness of the body and the mildness of the palette is a bit distracting, honestly. Still, it’s an easy beer to drink and a single serving is satisfying.

Good lord this stuff is drinkable (as no one before has noted). This isn’t a young bottle so there isn’t much hop aroma other than the scant remains of some citrus and flowers, but there’s lots of wheaty goodness. Taste-wise it’s like a straight weizen up-front, with this incredibly crisp, refreshing finish with lingering banana bread and spice, with just enough bitterness to balance the alcohol warmth. Why haven’t I been drinking this stuff for years?

Bottle at Pure Bar and Kitchen, Birmingham. Super sessionable. Weisse, but smooth and non gassy. Snakey flavour of vanilla and perhaps le banane. Reassuring on the old throat as it descends. Of course good.

500ml bottle purchased at the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Golden-yellow in colour with a long lasting white head, good size, excellent lacing. Aroma of spices, bananas, yeast, floral hops, citrus. Flavour of yeast upfront, spices, lemon citrus, very floral, lightly sweet. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes yeasty, long, lightly bitter. I don’t think that I have ever finished a beer so fast. So refreshing, fantastic stuff. I could drink pints of this all day during the summer.

Barwa pomarańczowa, mętna, ze średnią nietrwałą pianą. Aromat o dziwo dość tradycyjny, pszeniczno-goździkowo-owocowy. O ile jednak w zapachu amerykański chmiel ledwo zaznaczony w postaci domyślnych cytrusów i brzoskwini, o tyle w smaku owoce są wyraźniejsze. Czuć grejpfruta, mandarynkę, morele, jeżyny, kwiaty i delikatną chmielową goryczkę. Gdzieś tam majaczy mi belgijskie blanche.

This is a weissbier more into the clove spicy style, it lacks of banana. Smells delicious, floral and spicy.

500 ml bottle [BBE: 2015.08.14]
Blood alc: 0

Pours hazy Amber with a very white head of medium Fine bubbles. The Big coriander and spice whiff promises excitement. Flavour is slightly sweet with a tangy background and overall ?raw? flavour which works perfectly with the sweetness. The hop bitterness is unshy, although only as present as would be ideal and balances the sweet malty character perfectly. The end brings a lingering banana and fruit taste with hints of toffee which is most welcome and even maybe more pleasant, as it?s so gentle, than when the beer is actually on the tongue.
I just can?t really fault this as it?s a fantastic example of it?s style and shouldn?t really be any different. The only reason it doesn?t get 100% is because it?s not as exciting as my perfect, unrivallable beer would be. Perhaps my favourite Schneider so far but I?d just have to compare it side by side with Aventinus to make sure! ;)

Great job!

500 ml bottle from Ammersin 5, Vienna.
Dark orange to brown, cloudy body, with a big, quite stable, creamy, white head.
Aroma of wheat, yeast, spices, orange, banana and citric hops.
Tastes of wheat, spices, banana, orange, some vanilla, slight alcohol and even more fruity, citric and quite bitter hops.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes quite bitter, citric, zesty, spicy and a bit wheaty.

Tasty! A slightly stronger and surprisingly hoppy Hefeweizen. Doesn’t drink as easy as other beers of this style, but you get loads of full flavours instead. Another great, characteristic Weizen by Schneider Weisse!

Dorée avec des reflets orangés, trouble, bon col épais. Nez levuré, de banane et gomme balloune. Goût fruité de banane et encore de gomme balloune, de blé, d’épices et une touche citronnée.
