2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Held onto a bottle of this for quite some time (for reasons unknown) and decided it might be time to taste it. I became a little hesitant when I cracked it as it failed to pssshhhrt! Poured it into an Aventinus glass, it was relatively lifeless, raising only a thin white pad of foam, that managed to last the length. The body of beer a clean hazy gold with only the lightest amount of fine carbonation popping to the surface. Subtle spicy and grainy nose, sweet bubblegum and overly ripe bananas with a little note of tangy fruit. The aroma was quite pleasant but lacked the oomph of a good hefe, as did the flavour. Thin, watery body, light and spritzy in carbonation, it had an odd plastic feel mid-palate and a light lactic and gluggy feel in the back of the mouth, before finishing off with a short herbal and sweet swallow. Flavours were subtle with only a little of the normal bubblegum and clove-like phenols and fruity esters associated with a good example of the style. A little disappointed as I thought this may top the Weihenstephan and Spaten offerings, but it just lacked in all aspects. May be the higher alcohol content to blame for its lack of body and flavour. Still, a balanced and clean hefe-weizen that was easily quaffable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tapped. Kulovy Blesk. Classic weizen. A lot of wheat and malts in aroma with some decent amount of citrus. The body appears a classic heffeweizen with a very good and stable foam. Pretty rich taste with a very good fruitful and a bit sweety taste and a decent palate based on wheat finish with some enriched accord of banana and even hops. One of the best weizenbeers.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Great weizen. It has everything there is to like in the style: malts, citrus and yeast. And this has more. A rich complex weizen. More bitter hops than the original but less than the hopfen weizen. Delicious.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 0.5l at Weißes Brauhaus München. At first sight not the typical Weißbier as the bottle is served along with a tasting glass. Pours and smells like a german Weißbier but taste is somehow hop enhanced and thus has an extra bitter touch. This makes the beer much more drinkable for me and is a good twist on the normal Schneider Weiße. Good.

Delicious. Somehow classic weissbier and innovative American at the same time. Must be the cascade hops.

pours cloudy, with deep golden coloring. when handled with care, it has a gorgeous rocky head of foam, aided by kicked up sediment thats built up in the bottom of the bottle. all that sediment is full of classic weizen character; prominent yeast, clove spice, banana and slightly unripe fruit notes in the nose, a pleasant sweet flavor and crisp bread mouth-feel. medium body with good carbonation and little to no bitterness, despite the distinct grassy hops swimming in the background. aforementioned mild German hops and herbal spice notes begin to peak through the back end as the beer aerates and you make your way through the initial sips. like every great German weissebier, this one is sweet without getting sticky, doesn’t suffocate its hops (but doesn’t beat you over the head with them either), yeasty without being truly ’funky’, and very drinkable without sacrificing its subtle complexity. always a welcome choice.
