50cl bottle, Weissbräu at Pavilion. Pours dark golden with a large off-white head. Fruity aroma with wheat, light citrus, some fruits, hints of yeast and spices. Sweet, but refreshing with a nice light bitterness in the finish. Excellent beer in the heat. (2012-05-04)

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle 0.5. Semi-dark wheat beer. Color - amber, caramel, but muddy. Foam is good, bar, fine-grained, pure white. Fragrance - the usual wheat - light banana, apple, nutmeg and cloves. Taste - too sweet. I’m disappointed. Taste is not full, a bit empty, not even like a little wheat, not to mention the caramel flavor.

Bottle from Rhythm and Booze. Hazy, amber colour. Thin, tight, white head. Aroma is fusty grain, white bread, clove. Some red fruit. Hint of caramel. Taste is clacky sweet, with some sour apple. Full bodied, and a bit sticky. Sweet, and lightly soured finish.

Bought in Germany in 0.5L bottle. Have had the original a few times in the U.S. and actually remember it differently. It pours darker than I thought - a cloudy light brown. Aroma is a little weird on this one - might have to revisit this with a fresher bottle. On past experience, though, this is of course one of the classic weiss brands, but I prefer Ayinger and Weihenstephaner.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a beautiful dark wood colour, with a very clear profile. The head is nonexistent (from a bottle). Aroma of burning sugars, almost like the kitchen aroma when making caramel. You might love the aroma or be left wanting a bit more. I was quite happy.
I like the wheat profile from the first few sips. A classic weisse with a maltiness that provides for an excellent sweetness.
Surprisingly well carbonated, perhaps a dash too well. The lingering sweetness a minute or two after a sip, tends to lend to a certain flatness, or should I say a lack of well roundedness, to the finish.
Surprisingly refreshing, however every sip demanding a bit more from this beer. A bit of balance at the finish would be nice, but still a great sipper.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Gushed when opened, poured with about 8cm white head over cloudy, opaque, brown liquid. Head reduced to thin light brown layer wihin a few minutes with no lacing. Spicy aroma with cloves dominating. Taste again of cloves and possibly nutmeg, but no evidence of the apple mentioned in the description, slightly sour and refreshing. Somewhat carbonated as befits the style. Dry, spicy and sightly bitter finish. Would make a good brew to enjoy while sitting in the marktplatz people watching.
