3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle-pours a big off white head and cloudy deep orange color. Aroma is creamy banana, apricot citrus-grapefruit and lemon zest-(cascade/Amarillo also?) hops, wheat. Taste is alcohol, fruit, musty and clove. Taste not up to the aroma, but nicer and does follow. Some hops. Dry finish. Good effervescence.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours cloudy gold with stupendous ivory head, great lacing, and lots of bubbles. The aroma is very refreshing with lots of hops, fresh flowers, a little zest, and some yeasty spice. The flavor is floral hops right off, then some honey and spicy wheat tones. There is some yeastiness, but it is overshadowed by the crispness of the hops. The finish is slightly malty, but in a dry way. The aftertaste is slightly spicy alcohol and a lingering slight dryness. This is very tasty, indeed.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of MoritzF. Pours a very hazy golden with a handsome, dense, off-white head leving a pretty lacework. Fresh - somewhat herbal - hoppy nose. The usual banana flavours are very downplayed - almost non-existing. Medium body, dry malt accents and again these herbal and citrusy accents with a distinct and atypical bitterness. Very interesting. 041007

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This was just great. Mostly resembled a wheat beer, with banana flavors and aromas, but with a spicy hop character blending extremely well.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I am not a hophead by any stretch of the imagination. But I am an American. And as an American who loves well-made Belgian and German beers, I have to say that more European beers could do some mighty things with a reasonably hoppy kick in the ass. Here Iím thinking about the Chouffe Houblon. And of course Iím thinking about this beer. Predictably, I loved it.
My brother and I drank ours at the bierhaus in Munich. It poured a thick, muddy, grayish-brown, with massive amounts of yeast swirling around like smoke. Smells like hops, evergreen, and lemon zest. Covering the booze is no problem with those tangy yet grassy hops. The bitterness is in the driverís seat, and youíre in the back with the lemon and pine. The citrus stands out to me, because I think thereís a marriage of the citrus in the hops and the citrus in the weisse yeast. This beer floored me on the first go-round, and Iím glad they let me buy a few to go.

Frigginí awesome beer. Bottles, at Circa, 9/28/07. Like a big, meaty, chewy weiss with no noticeable sourness and pleasant hopping that doesnít overpower. So awesome.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Very interesting beer. Pours a hazy amber. Nose of bananas and pine. The wheat and hops both come through strong in the flavor. Really good. Very enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hmmm... this beer was definitely interesting. Just the uniqueness alone made it worthwhile. But then you had the awesome wiessebier aromas with bananas and bubblegum and a whole load of stickly sweet hops on top of that. The taste was remniscent of Aventinus, but with a dimension of itís own. There were too many spices and complexities to even point out. But on top of all of that it was so easily drinkable, so very refreshing, that I just wanted another...

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(bottle) Cloudy, murky amber colour with a huge light-beige foamy head. Sweet, light wheat-malty, fruit-accented lemon aroma with very aromatic piney hops and phenolic spice. Moderately wheaty, lemony fruity taste with a piney hops character from the beginning and present phenolic spices; dry, almost astringent bitter finish with a very pleasant piney hops character and a lemon-fruity, hoppy aftertaste with balanced spicy, slightly clovy phenols Extraordinary and unusual Weizenbock with a distinctive hop bite. I really hope there is more to come from the Saphir hops..
