3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a murky amber with yellowish hues. Thick rocky white head that settles. Dusty earthy hop aroma, some sharper notes seem to get lost. Sweet rich maltiness on the taste with a nice background level of hops. Low carbonation. The collective qualities add up well. This one grew on me the longer I sipped it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle) Pours a hazy light brown / dark yellow body with a large white head. Sweet aroma of banana, floral hops, and yeast. Unique flavors include a definite hoppy bite, in addition to bubblegum and wheat malt. Overall, I think that the flavors didn’t mesh as well as I would have liked. The hefeweizen side of the card was pretty good, but the sweet malts mixed with the hops ended up producing a sweet hoppy taste that was a little bit too much. Good palate and mouthfeel, with lively carbonation. The alcohol was well masked. Definitely worth a try, but overall I was slightly disappointed.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Brownish body with descent head. Nose was a mix of bananas and IPA notes of hop and malt. Very strange from beginning to end, a bit too much wheaty banana then I’d have liked.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great super dark brown coloured body with a hazy golden tint and a super thick white head. Aroma of fresh citrus, piney and grapefruity hops - simply amazing. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong wheat flavour up front with a good yeast kick and a bunch of sugars all leading way to a potent hop finish. Aftertaste has a bit of a ’band-aid’ taste, with some hops, wheat, yeast and coriander seed taste. Overall, a damn good beer for the style with potent hops, a good malt backbone and the sweetness to show well. Very nice to try - definitely recommended! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased at Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, Virginia on 21-January-2008.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
500ml bottle. The appearance definitely gets a 5 on this one. Deep, rich, pumpkin-orange color. Very lively carbonation and accompanying head. All the quality and depth of a top notch Bock, but with an intensely prominent fresh Hallertauer hop profile. It classifies itself as a Hopfen-weisse.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Was lucky enough to grab a couple and then, two days later, it was gone forever! Damn you....whoever you are! This was a great mid-summer treat. Big clove, wheat and bananna aromas. Even more spicy, dry treats in the flavor. The fruity essence of the yeast really worked well with the wheat and spiciness of the hops. Great selections by both brewmasters that worked wonders on the palate. Oh and the high alcohol level is a minor side note. The simplicity of this style is reason enough to recognize how special this version is. Don’t have to get to complex with my description: I’ll just leave it to the beer. Thank you Hans and Garrett!!!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a hazy softly carbonated yellow-orange colored body. The aroma was bready wheat and dough. The crisp semi-thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of bread dough malt and mildly vinous. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pretty well carbonated as I end up with an easily four-finger thick head after I pour it into my tulip glass. The head is a fluffy crown of froth, a light tan color and actually crests the top of my glass almost two fingers without overflowing. Interesting herbal aromatics mix with some of the more typical phenolic clove and banana esters. Also noticed is a green apple fruit aroma, perhaps a touch of plum and some substantial grain aromas reminiscent of grass, tart wheat and sweet malt. I like how hoppy the nose is, the hops are on par with the typical Hefe Weizen notes. The hops are definitely herbal, add a touch of grassiness, but perhaps a bit more like green hay.
Light feeling up front, but then the beer picks up a chewy heft to it that lets you know this is a bit bigger than your typical Hefe Weizen. The extra malt contributes a nice, grain-like sweetness which accentuates a banana flavor. The beer is quite hoppy throughout, with a solid bitterness that starts up front, continues and really adds a bite to the finish. The hop note is quite herbal in character, a bit green and at times it is even a bit astringent. This definitely has far more hop character that a typical Hefe Weizen, which is as promised, with a much higher bitterness and a substantial dry hopped character. The beer hides its alcohol pretty well, but there is a touch of alcoholic spiciness noticeable in the finish. The hop character and wheat notes combine to give this beer a slight lemon flavor towards the end of a sip.
An interesting beer, at times the hop character can get in the way of the traditional Hefe Weizen elements, but I like the attempt. It is always interesting to try a new hop (Saphir in this case); it has this really green, herbal note to it that is quite distinct and almost like under-ripe pepper.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
(500ml bottle) Graciously shared by Joss on his trip to Victoria, CANADA. Pours a cloudy amber body and a white head. Nose is banana bread, machine oil, iodine. Flavour is lasting of hops and reminds me of Jolly Pumpkin with a strong perfume. Yeasty with white pepper. This has got to be one of my favourite beers for 2007. Thanks so much Jonas!
