low carbonation, lots of bread, chocolate, caramel, moderately sour, but a bit all over the place. Lovely sour nose. What is weird is that it is very drinkable with the acidity. Almost like a beer. Really amazing in idocity, but not sure what to think. Extra points for originality. Beer got better as it warmed up.

Back-log rating. Bottle. Vineous, port, vanilla, Brett and notes as in a Flemish sour. Murky brown, low head. Aventinus fruitiness and berries on the palate, sour notes, tobacco, vanilla, fino sherry. Sparkly mellow and dry leathery body . Dry sherry finish.

Très étonnant surtout quand on connait le produit d’origine !
Très acide, quasiment une Rodenbach. Un nez très vinaigre, fond boisé de fut extrêmement perceptible, de belles notes raisineuses.
Une bouche très acide, assez noble, des jolies nous fruitées bien vieilles : pomme, cassis/groseille. On ressent énormément les fûts de chêne, c’est même ce qui domine.
Au final, un joli produit, assez étonnant de ce qu’on peut en espérer étant donné le style affiché.

Pours a very cloudy and very dark chestnut brown color with mahogany edges and a three finger, frothy beige head that very slowly settles into a lasting ring. Very good retention with streaks and spots if soapy lace left behind.
Earthy, slightly acetic aroma with a strong barrel character that somewhat overpowers the characteristics of the base beers. Prominent charred oak and very vinous with strong dark fruit sweetness followed by some bready yeast, peppery spice and chocolate malt. The red wine barrels really stand out with hints of damp oak, grape, currant, sour cherry, plum and other dark berries. The blend also gives off a slightly distracting and unpleasant acetone/chemical scent, hiding what is most pleasant about Aventinus. Underneath, there is some sweeter dark malt notes along with sourdough bread, banana and zesty clove but I wish that these elements were stronger in the nose.
Whoa, this beer is a huge acetone bomb! So much so that it almost completely overwhelms all of the other flavors. Harsh, solvent like and very tough to drink with lots of chemical flavor and vinegar. There’s some decent barrel flavor, mostly dry oak and sweet vinous fruit but the acetic acid is so overpowering, it kills off most of the pleasant flavors. Nothing about the base beers stand out except for some boozy sweetness and alcohol burn. I like that they are experimenting but this beer is pretty much an undrinkable mess.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at home Friday 15th May 2015 in company of Lynn and Barry. Wow this is really fruity, tart and tangy and very sour and wheaty! I hadn’t a clue what this beer was just picked up as not had it before so was surprised at the level of sourness, really fruity with berries in abundance, great stuff. A very sour and sparkling Bock. The taste of citrus and grapes are dominating and I almost thougt that I was drinking wine. Not my kind of beer but I understand people that like the taste.

Shared bottle at Bøker & Børst, Stavanger. Ruby brown, opaque body with a short lived, light brown head. Inviting oxidized apple compote, fruity malt, bretty prune nose. Refreshing complex sour fruity flavor. Oak and vanilla and plenty of vinuous barrel notes.Medium plus carbonated and medium bodied. Highly recommended.

Bottle - Pours rosy amber with a filmy off-white head. Nose has lots of oak and red wine, cherry, bready malt, and a bit of sharpness. Taste is milky cherry, oak, wine barrels, warm, mellow bready malt. Smooth body with gentle carbonation and a thick mouthfeel.
