3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Crown-capped champagne bottle – decants a lightly clouded light gold colored weizen in my glass. Decent puffy 2 finger cap lasts and laces. Light effervescence. Aroma is fairly modest but there is a defined wheat malt-fruit-clove aroma with an underlying vinous quality. Fairly sort moth with a light fluid character. Flavor is also demure but this is part of the intended character of this unique weizen – front side has the appearance of the standard Hefeweiss flavors, the clove phenols, banana-fruity esters and a light citrus presence – mid palate is where this beer becomes unique – instead of the standard hop bittering you get a mild tartness like raw white grape skin, not over powering but definitely present and this makes the finish not so dry but much like a white wine spritzer – fluid, tart but not puckering dry like most wiezens. Absolutely no hint of the alcohol in it. If this was the profile/character the brewer was attempting to produce, they succeeded in spades. Many will say this is a weak weizen bock but this ignores is unique mildness and vinous qualities.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. The pour’s slightly hazy deep gold with a small head. The aroma’s musty white grape. A touch of lemon. Quite sweet aged fruit. The taste is similarly sweet. Sweet yeast. Grapes, banana, some apple. Medium body, fine carbonation. Meh.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml bottle from Garmisch, Germany. Pours a hazy yellow melon color with a huge creamy yellow white head. Aroma is banana, clove, earth and citrus. Has a ultra smooth mouth feel and soft carbonation. Overall, it is some new ingredients that make a really awesome Heller Weizenbock. It comes from one of my favorite breweries, and I think it’s really cool that they’re broadening their horizons. I really liked this beer a lot.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Blue monk. Apple cider looking pour with a foamy white head. Sweet Nose, gentle aroma. Taste is sweet and bready, a bit funky? Pretty fruity in the hop presence, and a creamy soft sweet finish.

Pours hazy, light gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma is of grapes, fruity hops, yeast, slight lemon. Taste is crisp and sweet up front, with lots of carbonation yet retaining a medium body. Finish remains sweet but not cloying. I really liked this.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy golden with a thin white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma has some cloves and bananas but everything is shy it seems, not that intense. Taste-wise things get better with chewy malt and fruits. Not much bitterness to speak of but it is never cloying so I don’t care. It is also lightly tart, must be helping it achieving balance. Carbonation is medium-high, body medium. Quite a drinkable weizen but not a flabbergasting one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 bottle. Slightly cloudy with a golden colour and a white head that doesn’t seem to last very long. Fairly quiet aroma but there are notes of esters, lees, banana, some florality but I do get a nice light brown sugar note. On the palate it is rich, leesy, with a nice fruity or slighly tart note and finishes with a bitter bite. It has a little bit of a heat from the alcohol levels as well. Very good beer.
