Schoenling Bock has been revived specifically for this year’s Bockfest.

2010 version brewed at Lion Brewery.
2011 version brewed at Elevator Brewing.

Clear maple color, ivory head settles to a light head cove, bits of lace. Taste is buttery malt that adds dry wood and black earth before yielding to light bitter in the finish. Drinkable, but not as tasty or well-balanced as I would like.

Draft at Arnolds on March 2, 2013 during Bockfest. Opaque brown hue, small tan head, moderate malty nose, lively carbonation, nice sweet malty/earthy flavor with a bittersweet finish. Well done.

Pint on tap at Arnold’s, during Bockfest 2013, served in a plastic cup, for $6. Clear dark brown color. Thin light tan head. Medium body, kind of creamy. Good crisp lighter carbonation. Toasty malt. Light dark fruit. Little hop. Light bitter taste. Some sweet. Light bite in the finish. A solid, drinkable bock.

Draft at this years bockfest (2013) - Pours a nice nutty brown color with a small tan head. Sweet malty aromas and a nice mouthfeel. It’s sweet, and drinkable, quenches my thirst really well. Tasty beer, better than last years I think. Good stuff... even better in the atmosphere of bockfest hall.

Draft at Arnold’s for Bockfest 2013. Pours a semi-cloudy chestnut brown with a finger of off-white head. Aroma of cola, toasted and sweet malts, brown sugar-toasted pecans, and some earth and leaves. Flavor hits the same notes. A little woodiness, too. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet, malty, dry mouthfeel. Considerably better than the Hudy Bock.

Draft at Bockfest. Pours a dark copper color with a medium + sized beige head. The aroma and flavor had toasted malts with moderate sweetness. Perhaps the lightest sprinkling of fruit, but otherwise not much in the way of hops. Pretty clean and easy to drink. Nice to finally make a Bockfest.

Purchased on tap at Arnold’s Bar during the 2010 Cincinnati Bockfest - This one poured a dark (nearly black) bock brew with a fizzy tan head. I would’ve liked it more, but Arnold’s was witholding hooking up the tap...

Draft at Bockfest 2010. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate balanced toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate balanced malt sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable bock.

My dad used to drink this back in the day. It’s nice to see a well loved Cincinnati original come back, even if it is just for a weekend. Pours a medium brown color. Thin off-white head with moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty. Taste is the same with a nice sweet finish. A refreshing, tasty beer. Not fantastic but highly drinkable.
