Schöfferhofer German Wheat Beer Hefeweizen is brewed in Bavarian tradition using wheat malt. The live yeast gives bottle "conditioning" guaranteeing a refreshing fruity flavor. The yeast sediment also leads to the "cloudy" nature of the beer. Care needs to be taken when pouring. Tilt glass and pour slowly. Before pouring last quarter, roll bottle gently back and forward until sediment is dissolved.

Considering that it is not brewed in Bavaria but near Kassel in the middle of Germany: my hats off to that nice Hefeweizen. A bit flat aroma but a pleasant and rich taste.

500 ml bottle. Cloudy golden orange colour, thick fluffy white head. Strong banana aroma, clove, wheat, rich baked pear, cinnamon and a touch of caramel. Sweet flavour, banana, bubble gum, a bit of marshmallow. Soft wheaty texture. Nice fruity/spicy finish wiht acleansing bit of acidity. Nice hefe. Apple flavour comes out as it warms a bit.

Elle ressemble beaucoup à une witbier. Bon goût d’agrume, très rafréchissante. Dégusté d’une bouteille de 500 ml.

Bottle 50cl. Poured thick, cloudy orange with a large blooming white head. A rich and yeasty aroma with bubblegum, banana and citrus notes. The taste was a little acidic, but very pleasant and refreshing. Tangy almost spicy fruit flavour with the classic south german bubblegum taste. Notes of yeast, bread and banana/citrus, ending in a smooth soft bitter with hints of malt. The palate was a little oily but not unpleasant; the kind of beer that holds on to the roof of your mouth. Low carbonation. Very tasty if a little acidic hefe.

Abundant lightly golden foam, lumpy, sticky. Hazy orange/gold. Very nice to look at. Apples, cloves, and banana bread. A sweet, wholesome warmth. Bright, delicate apple flavor, a mouthfilling soft malt, gently peppery with the impression of other spices as well--cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg. A solid example of the style--yeast character really is the star of the show here.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2007 Towering bow-shaped apricot trombone capped with snowy froth. Woody banana perfume. Banana-bubblegum fruity with a moreish nibble of peppery-woody dryness in the finish. A real touch of bitterness for a Hefe. Spritzy, silky, fruity and balanced. A highly agreeable conclusion to the Dusseldorf pilgrimage.
