Schöfferhofer German Wheat Beer Hefeweizen is brewed in Bavarian tradition using wheat malt. The live yeast gives bottle "conditioning" guaranteeing a refreshing fruity flavor. The yeast sediment also leads to the "cloudy" nature of the beer. Care needs to be taken when pouring. Tilt glass and pour slowly. Before pouring last quarter, roll bottle gently back and forward until sediment is dissolved.

12 oz bottle. Pours pale orange cloudy with a thick white head. Aroma is slightly tart citric and banana, a touch funky. Flavor starts sweet, bready with some soft citrus notes but quickly fades to a grainy sweet character. Medium body and sharp carbonation. Weird beer.

Lunch at Stuttgart airport - asked if they had a Weiss bier: this was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Chilled and in a tall, fluted glass, I’ve had significantly worse at much better pubs elsewhere. Still don’t know what was in the strange sandwich that came with it though. Something meaty, salty and very chewy.

(On tap in Stralsund, 2014). Slightly tart and fruity aroma of yeast, citrus and sweet malt. Sweet and slightly watery taste of malt and yeast with hints of citrus in the finish.

Bottle at restaurant, Berlin. Has a hazy orange colour with a creamy, medium and off-white head. Fruity aroma of banana, spices, lemon, hay and yeast. The flavour is similar with the addition of hops and grass. Slick mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A great hefeweizen, maybe a little light flavour.

Cloudy yellow Light aroma of bananas and yeast. Slightly bitter at the end. Easy to drink and perfect match for a hot day.

An 8-month old 500 ml can from The Beer Store. Pours cloudy yellow with loads and loads of white head. Smells like a wheat beer, spices, banana, bubblegum. Same classic notes on the taste. Not quite as intense in flavour and aroma as others in the style, but a nice beer no less. I’d like to try it fresh.

Deep hazy gold with a nice white head. Smooth malt with citrus and a bit of yeast. Hints of spice and a fairly crisp finish.

Hazy orange-golden with creamy white head. Light banana and apple, bread, light spices, full grainy taste with even some caramel. Quite creamy feel that goes well with the sweetness. Medium bodied. Quite light on the typical Weizen notes, but not a light beer. Quite enjoyable.

Light. not too bitter or yeasty. A little creamy on the palate. Lacking in classic weissbier tartness. OK for a hot day.

Can. Light banana, wheat and vegetable aroma. Little bit spicy. Taste is ok, but feels a bit thin. Not so sweet and creamy as some hefeweizens. No vegetables in the taste thankfully. Not quite doing it for me.

Big frothy head with flavours of banana, yeast, fairly dry with a bit of sweetness to the end.
