Bottle discovered in the Class VI at Nellis AFB. Guarded by a standing bright whie head of foam, this is light golden brew. With a starchy nose it drinks in the mainstream of German pilsners ... malty and biscuit-based with a nice big and sturdy kiss of Teutonic hop bitterness to finish it off. Quite good!

A selection from this month’s shipment of the Malt of the Earth club. I will start by saying i am not into Pilsners. With that said, this is one of the best pilsners i have had, period. Very nice citrus hoppy aroma and taste. Smooth and well balanced. This is a very good Pilsner. Would be a great intoduction and transition brew for your friends into typical macro swill.

My Bottom Line :
Cracking straw and delicate spicy hops whip up a smashing dry, effervescent Pilsener.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sticky head of foam garnishes the clear pale golden.
-The flavor profile and mouthfeel are as polished as both other Schönram brews I’ve had at this point.
-Malts offer some bread connotations as well in their light sugary flavors.
-This may not be the most distinctive example, but it is impeccable and completely enjoyable.
-The spicy hop finish lingers nicely without overdoing it. Makes the brew even more süffig!
-This must be absolutely amazing fresh on tap at the brewery.

Bottle.

right from the bottle it is easily one of the best pilseners i have ever enjoyed. simply made according to the German purity law yet, as complex as one could imagine. fruity, spicy, mellow, tart, tangy and with zippy carbonation i ask, what’s not to like! no characteristic is overbearing and the body is moderate and in a word satisfying. bottle reads %5.4 ABV. peppry finish.

Pours into my glass a super pale yellow, super super pale, with a puffy white head that leaves a ton of lacing. The smell is maltier than most pilseners, with strong pale malt and a kiss of slightly medicinal/herbal hops. The immediate thing I notice in this beer is a great mouthfeel. The taste is suprisngly citrusy with the focus being lemon. There is slight bitterness in the aftertaste. This is an extremely smooth and quaffable German pilsener. This is a surprisingly solid German pilsener, it took me awhile to come across it, but I think I’m somewhat glad I did. It isn’t the best, but it is a solid, solid German style pilsener. Bottle: Pale clear yellow gold with a dense white film. Clean, biscuity pils aroma with a crackery fresh dryness and a grassy herbal noble hop note. Very nice. Crisp quenching feel with a firm pils malt presence in the flavor- Crackery, dry and lean pils presence with a great flowery/peppery noble hop bitterness on the back making it dangerously drinkable. An awesome German pils that I can drink all day. Very underrated.

Aroma sweet malty front , hint of salt with light dryness of hop.
Appearance good depth of gold with neat bright white top. Good traditional Pils appearance. 4-
Flavor and Palate : Good golden malts show up front. Fairly soft for German Pils more Bohemian in style. Very nice clean malt expose with good hop profile. Very refreshing. One of better ones I had from Germany.

Very surprised to see this Pilsner (and its Dunkel sister) on tap in the Greenwich Union: the Meantime Brewery tap house: Oct 2011. Reason being, I’d never heard of the brewery before. Had a half pint just to review it on here. This is one of the better Pilsner beers I’ve had and was certainly an improvement on the London Lager and Helles that Meantime had up against it on tap in their bar. This oozed classic Pilsner: the colour, smell, body and overall feel of it just seemed right. Served well and at a good chilled temp it slipped down far too well. I’ll not go into great detail (I only had a half don’t forget and I was on a mission to try a few brews that day), but this is well worth finding and trying if you get the chance.
