COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 3-Grid IPA is our flagship ale. This India Pale Aleís citrus notes are created by Chinook, Cascade, Columbus and Amarillo hops from Yakima Valley, making it a true Northwest-style crowd pleaser. The alchemists at Schooner EXACT balance the hoppiness with a hint of malt, making this IPA one that pleases the staunchest of hopheads as well as the microbrew newbie.

On draft. Pours golden amber with frothy white head. Big citrus aroma. Grapefruit taste hits you in the mouth on the first sip, is softened by sweet caramel malt. Sharp, bitter aftertaste. Hoppy and Iím happy. Tasty twist on the NW IPA.

On tap at Vons in Seattle. Must have been an off-batch or dirty lines. One of the worst IPAs I drank that day. Tasted flat and lacking any kind of unique citrus or pine character. All three of us had full pints and it was rather appalling. The place was jam-packed and busy so you would think that the keg was turning over reasonably quickly. I would love to try this elsewhere given how many others here seem to think itís decent. It was practically a drain-pour for us on that day at that location.

1 litre swing top bottle poured a clear amber with a lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of biscuit, floral notes, earthiness, mint, light grapefruit and a hint of pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness, citrus and a hint of pine with a smooth dry earthy finish.

One of the surprises of my fairly random drinking in downtown Seattle for a conference. I wasnít expecting much from the many IPAs on tap, but this had a decent balance and a very drinkable complexion, esp. in the finish. On tap at Vonnís, Seattle.

One liter bottle that suggests growler. This from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy light amber with a frothy 2 finger off-white head. Weíre talking NW IPA here. Aroma of citrus over mild roast caramel. Med+ body. Flavor starts malty, but the hop (I think both citrus and resin) sort of knocks the malt out of consideration. It is marvelously bitter. It may not be the most bitter NW IPA ever, but if thatís what you want, well, this should be in the top ten(for now). Wow, but this is damn good ale.

Swing-top liter bottle, five and a half bucks (not including deposit) is a great deal for this one. Poured and looked good. Smells great - floral and piney. Tastes even better - very resinous and "weedy". Just as bitter as could be expected from this stellar example of a Northwest IPA. My new favorite!

Nice fresh hop aroma. This is a pretty tasty IPA. Some good bittering hops, and a nice dry finish. Very crisp end. Good stuff.
