COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 3-Grid IPA is our flagship ale. This India Pale Aleís citrus notes are created by Chinook, Cascade, Columbus and Amarillo hops from Yakima Valley, making it a true Northwest-style crowd pleaser. The alchemists at Schooner EXACT balance the hoppiness with a hint of malt, making this IPA one that pleases the staunchest of hopheads as well as the microbrew newbie.

Cask @ Parkway Tavern & tap @ SE Tasting Room, Top of Tacoma and Red Hot. Golden orange, slightly hazy pour. Short but enduring off-white head that leaves a dense lace. Grassy hop nose and middle fading to a shortish citrus finish. Chewy medium body with low carbonation and a solid maltiness and strong rum flavor underlying the middle and finish. Balanced towards bitter, but sweet and umami are not ignored, as it should be in an IPA. This ale develops as you drink it - what more could one ask for! A pint from a fresh keg at Topís revealed the 3 Grid to be a solid, balanced IPA with scads of pleasant hop flavors. Very sessionable, unlike too many West Coast IPAs.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2011 Bottle, pours hazy golden orange with a big white head. Aroma is quite piney, with caramel, grapefruit and citrus hops. Flavour matches this almost exactly, with very pronounced piney flavours. Very well done.

Tap at Brouwerís. Dark amber beer. Hoppy aroma. After a Full Sail LTD 3 this is one in your face beer by comparison. Flavour is more woody than citrus leading me to think Amarillo over the Cís but still working on picking them out. I need a hop guide in my pocket with the notes book.

At the brewery. This is an IPA that Iíd match with food - too many brewers are now making "doubles" or beers with so much hop complexity they canít match with anything else. Not so here, paired with a strong cheese, cheddar or brie even, this is the perfect appetizer beer. My next adventure, pairing this against something spicy, like Buffalo wings...
