3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had at the Schooner Pub and Galley. Clear amber in color with bubbly white head. Very aromatic. Citrus hops and spices too. Tastes much like the nose. Busy flavor. Lots of hops and various spice notes. Body is above average. Too me this is like a winter IPA. Would drink again but may be a tad heavy on the spices.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This sits somewhere between a stout and a scotch ale. Medium hoppiness but mostly dominated by caramel and oak. Nice winter beer without the spice. Post beer burps reminded me too much of bourbon.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at The Burgundian Tavern, pours a dark amber / brown with a small beige head. Aroma of holiday spices, citrusy hops and roasted malt, like a spicy black IPA. Flavour is very similar, with the spice more dominant than the black IPA component character. There are some chocolate and candied notes in there as well. Solid stuff.

Bomber. Roasted malts, spice and a some sweetness in the background. Finish is dry with a touch of bitterness. Overall a very mild brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours dark slightly reddish brown with very thin head. Aroma is roasty dark malts and a hint of chocolate. Taste is smooth rich chocolate malts with substantial bitter hop finish. Very dry mouthfeel, almost chalky. Would like more hop flavor in the taste, the malts dominate a bit. Solid although a bit one dimensional... the bourbon barrel aged version of this (Woodsman) adds strength and complexity to great effect.

Coffe,e wheat bread, pine resin, spice. moderate khaki head on translucent mahogany. Dries the mouth--thin and a little flat. Tastes roasted, sour like Guiness, some spices. Some warming. Astringent finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught @ Brouwer’s Cafe: Deep ruby, copper hues, moderate pillowy light beige head, nice lacing. Soft cocoa nose, a little bit of toasted malt, a bit nutty. Smells like a big Brown Ale. Big notes of cocoa and nuts on the tongue, malty, yeah... very much like a big Brown Ale. Smooth, albeit body and mouthfeel are moderate. Has a bit of biscuit on the exit. Its like an English Strong crossed with a big Brown Ale. Fairly tasty, even if a little unexciting.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22. Pours a murky dark ebony with a dense and creamy tan mousse that fades quickly. Big roasty chocolate and herbal hop nose, really nailed the combo--bitier than an impy stout, sweeter than a black ipa. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Sweet heavy chocolate mid palate with a long creamy sweet chocolate finish. But still maintains its presence as a balanced strong ale, rather than as the impy that the descriptors might suggest.
