Our winter seasonal is available from mid October to February. Hoppy Holidays is the beer that started it all. Matt used to brew with winter ale on his stovetop at Christmas time for friends and family. Deep, rich, and flavorful; this ale will keep you warm on cold winter nights. Chocolate malt and aggressive hop additions provide a unique character that will linger.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a dark reddish-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of sweet malt, caramel and earthy hops. The finish is malty up front with a hoppy aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours clear darkly copper/brown with a very slight beige head. Aroma of dark roasty malt with hints of chocolate and something suggesting hop. Near full bodied. Flavor is roasty, a little nutty, has some chocolate, and thereís some bitter which could be hop. The malt flavor is pretty dominant, so itís hard to pick out a hop type. Still, this stuff isnít all that sugary, and thereís bitter in the finish. Pretty drinkable stuff.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Total Wine & More. Aroma: moderately roasted, caramel malt. Appearance: small, frothy, light-brown, initial head with fully diminishing longevity and very good lacing. Dark-brown/black, cola-colored body. Taste: moderately sweet initial taste and lightly bitter finish with nutty, roasted malt aftertaste. Long duration. Palate: full-bodied with dry texture and lively carbonation. Overall: very good. The sweet initial flavor offset the lightly bitter finish very well.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, a bit of earthy hops, some deep caramel and toffee with a grassy and herbal kick at the end. Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppy flavour at first with earth and grass very strong, some pungent alcohol, all with a good and defined toasted malt backbone. Aftertaste shows some nice malt, a good dose of hops (but not overpowering) and a pleasant sweetness, very well balanced. Overall, a nice beer, Iím not sure why itís rating isnít higher - this is balanced and still showing a hint of complexity - nice. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 11-January-2013 for US$5.99 sampled at home in the real Washington on 02-February-2013.

Had at the Schooner Pub and Galley. Clear amber in color with bubbly white head. Very aromatic. Citrus hops and spices too. Tastes much like the nose. Busy flavor. Lots of hops and various spice notes. Body is above average. Too me this is like a winter IPA. Would drink again but may be a tad heavy on the spices.

This sits somewhere between a stout and a scotch ale. Medium hoppiness but mostly dominated by caramel and oak. Nice winter beer without the spice. Post beer burps reminded me too much of bourbon.

On tap at The Burgundian Tavern, pours a dark amber / brown with a small beige head. Aroma of holiday spices, citrusy hops and roasted malt, like a spicy black IPA. Flavour is very similar, with the spice more dominant than the black IPA component character. There are some chocolate and candied notes in there as well. Solid stuff.

On tap @ Chuckís 85th. Pours dark slightly reddish brown with very thin head. Aroma is roasty dark malts and a hint of chocolate. Taste is smooth rich chocolate malts with substantial bitter hop finish. Very dry mouthfeel, almost chalky. Would like more hop flavor in the taste, the malts dominate a bit. Solid although a bit one dimensional... the bourbon barrel aged version of this (Woodsman) adds strength and complexity to great effect.
