COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter seasonal is available from mid October to February. Hoppy Holidays is the beer that started it all. Matt used to brew with winter ale on his stovetop at Christmas time for friends and family. Deep, rich, and flavorful; this ale will keep you warm on cold winter nights. Chocolate malt and aggressive hop additions provide a unique character that will linger.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours dark slightly reddish brown with very thin head. Aroma is roasty dark malts and a hint of chocolate. Taste is smooth rich chocolate malts with substantial bitter hop finish. Very dry mouthfeel, almost chalky. Would like more hop flavor in the taste, the malts dominate a bit. Solid although a bit one dimensional... the bourbon barrel aged version of this (Woodsman) adds strength and complexity to great effect.

Tap at Watering Hole. Caramel forward nose with some dark fruit, chocolate and a bit of earthy hops as it warms. Palate is pretty much the same with the malts really dominating and fruity esters in second. Finish is slightly bitter with earthy and grassy notes. Not bad.

I guess when the name starts with "Hoppy" i expect a hoppy beer- this was not that. Caramel in color, the aroma and flavor is mostly sweeter malts, chocolate, and sweet bread, with little hop presence at all. Smooth body and a sweet, clean finish. This is not a bad beer at all. It’s just completely nondeScript, doesn’t live up to the Hoppy moniker, and easily forgettable. Basically, a well-brewed snoozer.

Bottle. Colour...deep amber with a thin ecru head. Nose...hmmmm...spent grain and lots of it! Palate...what do you know; more spent grain! There’s some hops, especially in the back palate, but the spent grain thing overrides everything else. Not a pleasant experience.

First up is Hoppy Holidays a 7.5% winter ale that pours a deep reddish brown with a beige head. The aroma is malty caramel, a touch of fudge, some spice & hops. Medium-full body with a velvety smooth mouthfeel. The taste is solid chocolate, dark fruits, light spice and earthy hops. Good stuff at not at all what I was expecting. A really nice winter beer.

Tap at CBM Koenji. Dark amber. Chocolate and light spice aroma. Taste is interesting, sharp hoppiness, dark fruit, but of spike, some caramel. Interesting.

Draft at brewery. Dark brown, creamy head. Roasty malt nose, thick creamy body. Vanilla, resiny hops in balance. Tasty.

Draught. Pours a mostly clear dark brown color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is slightly toasty, though I get relatively little smell of this. Taste is slightly sweet and just a bit bready, with a hint of some toast. OK.

Bomber. Pours a copper color with average head and egg shell lacing. Aroma of grass and taste of pine, citrus and malt backbone. Decent ----Hophaze out

Bomber pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head that leaves light lacing. Smells of chocolate, pine, nuts and toffee. Tasted of all the same things with a good hop bite. Mouthfeel is thin and oily with light carbonation and a dry finish. Nice and hoppy for a winter seasonal almost black ipa territory. Liking the beer from this newer brewery the know what they’re doing when it comes to hops.
