mreeves (249), Sammamish, Washington, USA Dec 28, 2007 Dark brown appearance, nice head. Good roasted aroma and flavor. You can really taste the grains in here, and there are plenty of hops to make its name appropriate. A really nice winter seasonal.
riversideAK (1755), Shoreline, Washington, USA Feb 29, 2008 Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and woody earthy hops. DRy roasted malt flavor with big earthy bitterness. Flavors of wood, herbs, and funk are imparted by the hops. Was very dry both from the roast and hops. I found this to be very enjoyable. I would like to try their IPA. scrizzz (523), kirkland, Washington, USA Feb 22, 2008 moderate roasted malt, very hoppy finish, cant wait to drink more from this brewery Gromit (450), Port Orchard, Washington, USA Jan 29, 2008 On tap!
Pours a nice dark brown with a decent head. The lacing is very delicate looking.
Aroma is faint, but raisins and roasted coffee come to mind.
Flavor is very nutty. As I typed that, the aftertaste became very nutty. It’s a tad bit astringent, actually, but there’s some dark fruits and coffee hiding in the back. I can’t find anything on the web that ties it to the "ASA" style, but from the others from that style I’ve had, this is rather weak. There’s also a rather prevalent alcohol presence that’s not balanced very well.
Palate is actually a little thin for the style, and again astringent. Overall it’s pretty good, but only pretty good. The brewery is young and has some good people behind it, so I expect this will become better.
