3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Shared bomber, poured to snifters showing a clarified mahogany color, with a modest layer of off white foam that reduced to a persistent ring, and wavy cling to the lacing. The aroma was grape, light spice, with vanilla, and a note similar to toasted marshmallow, that lightly smoothed the tartness of the fruit. The taste was similar, medium+ bodied, with some dryness, bourbony alcohol presence, but a little less impressive than the nose. Tasty, nonetheless.

A very well balanced ale. Rich and luxurious, equal parts dark and chocolatey, roasted, and vanilla Oaked goodness. Hops still shine through the barrels a bit. An excellent brew."

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2011 Very dark broWn pour, off white head. Aroma of baking pastry, burnt sugar, wood. More doughy toasty pastry on the flavor, vanilla, burnt sugar, bourbon, finishes very woody and dry. I really like the sharp wood balancing the nice sweet malts in this.
