Me dad was a huge fan of this lager. Olands Schooner Lager beer as the adverts went. Typical Maritime lager, a bit more malt and hop than BMC beers, but adjunct taste is also apparent.

The Schooner the better.
Here’s a beer that doesn’t really give a damn what anyone thinks about aroma, appearance, flavour, or palate. This is a beer that’s rough around the edges, sure, but so are most of it’s drinkers, who wouldn’t have it any other way. A loyal Schooner drinker will proudly order a boat at the bar no matter what. The faint of heart may grimace and question but that’s just fine by us. Schooner is a part of Atlantic Canadian culture, and is the undeniable brand of choice for many maritimers. This beer’s got history. What it lacks in ’appearance’ it makes up for in character.
I mean, the Oland family rebuilt the world famous schooner Bluenose as a sailing advertisement for this beer. This beer had it’s own boat. Seriously, how kick-ass is that?
I didn’t see a ’charm’ section anywhere, so I’m gonna raise the score for this old girl, just a little bit. She deserves it.

POurs gold with a n on descript aroma. The palate is very clean with a limited amount of flavors. It drinks very flat with almost no finish.

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2007 I haven’t had this one in many, many years because I don’t believe it is available in the U.S.A any longer, at least in my area. It used to be and I used to buy six-packs of it from time to time. I tend to like Canadian bieres. I recall that it had a strong skunky aroma and an aftertaste. Last time I had some was during a visit to New Brunswick. Last time I had it in the U.S.A. was probably some time in the early 1990’s. I drank it only from a bottle. And I have a nifty Oland Brewery 12 ounce glass from which I drink all my Canadian brews.

341 ml bottle sampled at Tapps, St. John, New Brunswick (May 2007). Very, very pale yellow, just a bit of fizzy quick-dying head....plain, dull adjunct nose offers a bit of celery for the vegetally-inclined....clean but extremely bland, watery, faintly grainy body with just the barest touch of caramel at the finish...no hop presence, of course....umm, more drinkable than Tapps’ own beers, but not any better really.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2007 Schooner Lager is a good lighter lager with a nice smooth aftertaste and a good aroma a nice BBQ beer.

Can. Pale yellow, overcarbonated, brief but large head. A poorly made macro with no discernable character, other than the usual corniness etc etc.
