Commercial Description:
Introduced in the 1950s, Schooner is a popular Maritime-brewed beer. Unique fruity flavours from the Labatt yeast, and a special blend of North American hops, help deliver a clean, smooth tasting beer. Schooner beer was named after the famous sailing ship, the Bluenose II, which was owned by the Oland family.

341 ml bottle sampled at Tapps, St. John, New Brunswick (May 2007). Very, very pale yellow, just a bit of fizzy quick-dying head....plain, dull adjunct nose offers a bit of celery for the vegetally-inclined....clean but extremely bland, watery, faintly grainy body with just the barest touch of caramel at the finish...no hop presence, of course....umm, more drinkable than Tapps’ own beers, but not any better really.

Can. Pale yellow, overcarbonated, brief but large head. A poorly made macro with no discernable character, other than the usual corniness etc etc.

(Rating #739)

My bottle shared with Blankboy and Hogtown Harry. Very light yellow, tiny white head. Not much aroma - very grainy. Clean refreshing taste. Not offensive. About as good as swill can get, because it is swill, no taste and bland as hell. Watery. There ya go.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry and tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear pale gold with a spare diminishing white head. Aroma of grain, malt and light stale hops. Watery, grainy flavour with some malt, spices and light hops. Light bodied. Complete swill but slightly better then a lot of the other Canadian macro swill we get here.

Bottle (341ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, tupalev’s bottle. clear very pale yellow, not much head. Slightly nasty vegetal aroma, dry, not much of anything. Taste is slightly apple-sweet and fresh-grainy, perfumy light hops - not horrid. Mouthfeel is incredibly watery and light, quick finish and a bit of a harshly sweet aftertaste. Not really that bad - reminds me of deep sea fishing in PEI in the ’70s.
