On tap @ Schooners poured a translucent dark brown nearly black with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla and light carmel and roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, vanilla, molasses, roasted malt and light coffee with a smooth roasty bitter finish.

Poured on tap at Jupiters an inky black with medium sized mocha head. Aroma was light with roast grain and smoke. Flavor was mostly dry with coffee, roast grain, smoke, and some tart cherry wood notes. Bitter and tart took over at the end. Maybe a bad batch, but this was not like a sweet stout at all. Has some malt presence but mostly grain, smoke and tart. Overall, I wasn’t a fan. Maybe I’ll give it a try elsewhere to compare and re-rate.

Pours chocolate brown with a tan head. The nose is chocolate malt and caramel. The flavor is roasted malt, caramel, molasses, chocolate and a hint of licorice. Very creamy on the palate.

On tap at the Schooner’s Brewery/Restaurant in Antioch. Served to me from brewer Craig right from the holding tank. It pours with mocha head and deep dark color with the thinnest edge of garnet. There is a big aroma of oatmeal twang, roasted to burnt malts and maybe a hint of lactose. Maybe the lactose I’m sensing is really the oatmeal melding with a hint of sweet malts. Inviting. The flavor doesn’t mess around. There’s bold burnt and roasted malts mixing with oatmeal and a slight malt astringency (might just be a vague hop bitterness that seems astringent). Toward the finish the burn malts remain and ride into the after taste. This has a nice bold flavor and a body that seems just right.

2007 GABF Dark pour, tan head, small lace. Well roasted aroma, touch of chocolates, very mellow and quite nice. Palate is to thin. Well roasted light chocolates touch of coffee, nice but a bit small.

Bottle. Nose-smokey, sweet soy. Taste-medium oatmeal, dry, sawdust, roastiness, mocha, good lacticness, good iced coffee, medium thinness, good amount and mix of roast and oatmeal. Good sweetness and cream.

Draft. Black pour with a creamy tan head that coats the glass as you drink. Chocolate malt aroma with a touch of grain and coffee. Thick mouthfeel. Pretty fruity with tons of chocolate and a strong bitterness. Slight coffee notes. Clean finish and a lingering bitterness.
