3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3365) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - APR 11, 2011
Nice rich and luscious brown and amber coloured body with speckles or ruby, brown and coper colours throughout. Aroma of a ton of elements including figs, juniper berries, caramel, toffee, apples and pears - all very strong. Full-bodied; Strong potent alcohol warmth up front with a backbone of a ton of malt, pit fruits, a light hoppy note and some very subdued herbal tastes. Aftertaste shows nice complex flavours with the alcohol and pit fruit flavours the strongest. Overall, a nice beer showing some good characteristics, a fresh taste and a very worthwhile beer to drink if you can find it. I sampled this pint on draught at Pete’s Brass Rail in Danville, California on 19-March-2011.

Pours a slightly hazed deep orange amber with a thin yet lasting off white head. Aroma is a real nice smooth syrupy sweet caramel, toffee, crystal malt- without being sharp or metallic- decent hop balance- big bready toast as well. Flavor is sweet molasses, tons of nutty malts, thick sweet caramel and burnt sugar, ok hoppiness in the end for a moderate bitterness- and a very silky creamy finish. Nice!
