We strive to create a well balanced, American influenced, English-Style barley wine. We use 7 different grains to create the satisfying and substantial malt background. Following a multihour boil, the malt is balanced by substantial American hop additions. The result is a complex interplay of caramel, figs, and dark fruit that can be sipped for hours.

Note: ABV changes batch to batch. Original was 10.5%, most recent is 11.7%.

Poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of toffee, pipe tobacco, light cherrry and light spice. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, cherry, pipe tobacco and light earthiness with a smooth lingering cherry pipe tobacco finish.

10 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. The aroma has some anise hints and a little burnt rubber present. Definitely an English-style barleywine. I also detect some weird phenolic character, too. Transparent amber body with a smallish off-white head present. Starts sweet, and becomes a little rubbery with some significant anise qualities. Becomes a little fruitier later on. Finishes with some caramel hints. Ethanol hidden well. Full-bodied and sticky. Not a fan of the anise flavors, though.

Nice rich and luscious brown and amber coloured body with speckles or ruby, brown and coper colours throughout. Aroma of a ton of elements including figs, juniper berries, caramel, toffee, apples and pears - all very strong. Full-bodied; Strong potent alcohol warmth up front with a backbone of a ton of malt, pit fruits, a light hoppy note and some very subdued herbal tastes. Aftertaste shows nice complex flavours with the alcohol and pit fruit flavours the strongest. Overall, a nice beer showing some good characteristics, a fresh taste and a very worthwhile beer to drink if you can find it. I sampled this pint on draught at Pete’s Brass Rail in Danville, California on 19-March-2011.

Pours a slightly hazed deep orange amber with a thin yet lasting off white head. Aroma is a real nice smooth syrupy sweet caramel, toffee, crystal malt- without being sharp or metallic- decent hop balance- big bready toast as well. Flavor is sweet molasses, tons of nutty malts, thick sweet caramel and burnt sugar, ok hoppiness in the end for a moderate bitterness- and a very silky creamy finish. Nice!
