Interessante!

Having only tried a handful of sours I may not be the best person to comment here, however I am. Most of the nose on this beer is, as noted below, overwhelming nail polish remover, to the point that it’s really hard to notice anything else behind it. Taste is marginally better, with a mix of tart fruit/sour apple and sweet malt to balance. Nail polish remover notes remain though. Disappointing, at least to this humble noob.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark reddish color ale with a medium size off-white head with OK retention. Aroma of tart notes with some oak notes and light cherry notes. Taste is also dominated by nice tart notes with cherry and oak flavours easily identifiable with limited level of acidity. Residual sugar notes are present and just enough to cut through some of the sour notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Very enjoyable and lot better than some of the beer this brewery has produced in the past.

Pours a murky dark golden with a small white rim for a head that does leave some lacing. Nose is overtly acetic, so much that it burns if you try to smell it for too long. Being a masochist, I kept going back to it and picked up some light nail polish through all the raw vinegar. Taste-wise it is a lot better actually, highly acidic also but there is some grainy sweetness to balance it a little. Flavors oscillate between red wine vinegar, acetone and malt. Don’t drink too fast though or you will get some throat burns. Someone else mentionned it already but it is more drinkable than the other Flanders Red that Schoune produces, not that it is an achievement in any way but it’s a step in the right direction at least. Body is medium, texture oily. I wouldn’t buy again, no matter what.

Bottle (341 ml). Murky dark amber with a medium beige head and little to no lacing. Aroma is of red fruits, wood, moderate acidic notes and caramel. Taste is slightly sweet and moderately to heavily acetic (more at first and it then calm down after a few minutes), brettanomyces, wood, caramel. Light to medium body. Low to moderate carbonation. Woodsy. Mouth puckering. A tad harsh and unbalanced, but with a little refinement it could be a very nice Flanders Red. Enjoyable and tasty.
