Bought this quite a few times when in Montréal, May 2013, 2006 edition. Aroma of unripe apples, fresh hay and brett. Carbonation is low, mouthfeel similarly thin. Starts out quite sour, but ends on a malty sweet note, you have to look for the aging even though this was 7 years old. A bit too simple, but the only decent gueuze I had in Canada.

Hazy golden colored body, thin white head, sparse lacing. Intense acetic notes, some citrus, and light funk. Mostly a vinegar bomb from start to finish. Medium to light bodied, moderate carbonation, aggressive acidity. A bit too much...

Bottle. Murky gold pour with white head. Fruity aroma, lots of apricots, light bretty notes. Fruity flavor, light acidity, leather taste. Palate is a tad sweet for the style. Was very surprised by this beer, gave it a 4 blind, and even called it too. Highly drinkable, just a tad sweet.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2013 Forgot this bottle in the dark. Yep, this is the 2005 edition, opened in 2013. Well, quite surprised (as I remember Schoune beers being infected in the past), but this one is quite good. Did time make this one better ? I think so. Cloudy (hazy by the last pour) amber colour with a soapy head, average retention and minimal lace. Sour nose with lots of fruits (apples, lemons, gooseberries). Sour taste, but not as strong (as this is where time did it’s job) balanced by some nice sweetness. Lots of apples, reminding me of natural cider without the spices. Mild tartiness lingering with some yeast. I am very surprised how good this is, for so many years sitting. Wish I would of cellared more.

On tap at Festibière de Québec. An almost clear pale golden with a resilient white head. Aroma is unripe fruit. Flavor is fruit, sugar, white grapes. Finish is tart, unripe fruit. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Nice.

on tap at festibière de québec. hazy light golden with a nice white head, some retention and lacing. unmistakebly bretty but also particularly acetic, light toasty caramel, wheat, peaches, vanilla - almost bourbony oak, tad sweet malts. light but assertive acidity, credits to acetic acid. not too lively, light body, lightly herbal and acidic finish. a more than decent gueuze-like beer, but blending young lambic with this unblended (at least i think) lambic would do them a great favor.. enjoyed it - pleasant surprise.

Pours a unclear golden with a thin white head that disappears into nothingness, well a tiny rim of foam. Aroma has a sharp acetic component with not much funk and a fruity background. Taste is acetic - not lactic - but to a level that is bareable. Body is almost heavy, carbonation is good. Flavors are of green apple and peaches trying to pierce that thick acetic barrier. Not as bad as I thought it would be but nowhere as great as even the simplest authentic gueuze out there.

Bottle 750ml [2006] Pours golden with very low white head (almost none). Aroma is of fruits, citrus, sweetness, acid acetic? (bruery-like). Taste is of acid ?acetic?, funk, sweetness. Some fruits. Palate: Ligth body. Overall: Too acid (and not sour) for me. Drinkable once you are acid-saturated. [Note: Drank as part of blind tasting of gueuzes. I was not humiliated and ranked this one very low, but I was certainly surprised when I was told it was this beer. I had this one a couple times before, and was left with the impression it was gross. Indeed, it can’t compete with real belgian stuff, but it is not as way off as I thought imo.]

Bottle (750 ml). Thanks ? (don’t remember who)! Clear golden with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma is dominated by strong acidic notes along with oak, citrus and green apples. Taste is slightly sweet and heavily acidic with oak, citrus and leather. Bone dry mouthfeel. Mouth puckering. Moderate carbonation. Ok Wild Ale, but it doesn’t have the complexity of a Gueuze.
