4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 daje (1291) - NORWAY - OCT 2, 2010
On tap at brewpub. Now this is the best of the beers (of their own) they had availible on their second day.
Pours almost black in the glass with a finger thick head that disappears in a minute.
A rich (without going gonzo danish style) malty aroma, strong coffee flavour, if I hadn’t known better I’d have guessed this was the Java stout that they emptied the night before.
A bit thin, but I think this beer can develop into a really good stout. Will defo buy again!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Palme (2252) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUL 17, 2011
On tap @ Olympen, Oslo. This bear pours a near pitch black body with a nice light creamy cafe au lait head leaving big lacing down the glass. Aroma is light roasted malts, some cold coffee, definitely some mocha and chocolate notes in here as well, hints of wood and a light hint of something dry. Not sure what but it’s dry - perhaps its the wood?. Average carbonation, medium-bodied and has an oily texture. Tastes quite alright. Heavily roasted malts are the main flavor here, but also get something sweet with hints of yeast and something light floral. Light hint of licorice in the aftertaste. Quite a nice and highly drinkable stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Glouglouburp (5568) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 25, 2012
In short: A medium-sweet medium-hoppy stout with a bit of everything. Good beer.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head with excellent retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass
In long: Nose is medium-roasted, some toasted tobacco leafs, raisin pie. Taste has some black liquorice, some raisins, some vanilla, light notes of chocolate, light notes of coffee beans. Then a good amount of citrsusy/citric hops that creates a contrast and a refreshing finish. Mouthfeel is soft with a carbonation much more relaxed than everything else I had from this brewpub. Quite enjoyable, a beer I would have probably enjoyed a lot more if it wasn’t for their hoppy beers being so damn fantastic. I don’t know what a Thunder Bear is, but the simple fact that one day a bear said “hey guys every year let’s just eat a ton of food and then sleep for 6 months” really makes question the notion that humans are the smartest species on the planet.
